And just because that photo reminded me of the video, here is something to distract you while you wait for February 7 (or beyond):

They have a new flamethrower pic on the FB page. I can't help think the head itself is too big, never mind the helmet. Be interesting to see the model test shots. Does look great though. I suppose with the scowls on the faces it'll be harder to have doubles of heads in the same squad anyway, so spare smaller heads might do the trick, or maybe they'll have multiple heads.. we'll see.

I admit that does seem to look better from this angle at first glance, but human proportions are such that a person is usually 3 heads wide from shoulder to shoulder. With that in mind, the original size actually seems more correct.

I will freely admit this is a tricky question. I think the original could very well be perfectly correct, for say (and this is all for sake of example since I'm not pulling out the ruler) a 5' 7" man. A 6' 2" linebacker would have more 'heroic' proportions.. which leads to the next point, most often in any creative medium we push for the ideals, not the average, which for a soldier we often imagine large, heroic, 6-and-a-half heads tall (plus boot soles and helmet etc.)
Of course, look at any picture of ww2 marines and those guys are built gaunt, wirey thin, corded muscle, not the thick protein enhanced US Marines of today. But that's an aesthetic choice that I don't necessarily see here. The other issue is that film and television define our expectations. But actors have been distorted through camera lenses. So again our expectation is for more heroic proportions, and why everyone is always surprised when they see a celebrity in the flesh and often contrary to what the lenses and camera staging made them out to be. Some actors refuse to be shot with particular lenses because long lenses artificially widen their face, or short lenses makes them too gaunt, or what have you. Point being, my perception of this soldier is he is a short small guy, which might look odd standing 4" tall as my Roadblock. (The 25th anni Joes had teeny heads) TLDR I know, but it's an interesting topic and consideration for action figure makers. So many steps to the process as well, let's see how their test shots look! |
