It as great listen on how figures are decided each year and the constraints he worked with. Also some history of his favorite things he did at Hasbro with Joe. Even some of the things he wanted to do. It certainly seems like he lived his dream job for a few years. Honestly, if Steevy hadn't posted this I wouldn't have listened since the show notes basically said it was a 9 hour Transformers show. I hate Transformers. So glad I listened to Mark's GI Joe part of the interview. |

He talked a little about this at the 2016 JoeCon and it really opened my eyes to Hasbro's side of things and how damn lucky we were to get anything at all these past few years.

Jay, I was working in Sports Radio as a sports update anchor on WTOP (the biggest news/talk station in Washington DC) but my wife and I wanted to return to Arizona (we met as ASU students) to be closer to her family. I was searching for radio/media jobs and found the job listing at McFarlane Toys as "Sports Journalist." They initially wanted it to be an online marketing/fan relations position (they hosted their own message boards on their home page) but it transitioned into a Brand Management position pretty quickly.

Thanks for the interview. I found your non committal to the state of the tooling, while complementing the TF tooling order most interesting.

Not sure why they couldn't have done so many more repaints on cobra troopers and vipers, arctic white, desert camo, jungle camo, etc. Why di they need specialists instead of just new uniforms for the chrome headed 30th Viper. I liked the interview with Mark, and I guess he did what he could.
Very curious as to what Joe will be "when" it comes back. Not sure I will be into it, and that's okay, I've got lots of 1/18th brands to choose from now, we've got Marauders, Eagle Force (hoping that keeps developing strong), etc. Joe will always have my heart though. |

That was a good bit. It really confirmed my thoughts on Joe having had such limitations as far as resources. I think Mark did a great job explaining how he took the gig, not with the promise, but kind of an expectation of there being a big product push once the new movie/whatever came out. Unfortunately it has always been 2 years away. It's still a few years away. I personally thought when they brought on a brand manager we were in for a big product push that never happened. Seems Mark kind of thought the same thing. It's really worth the listen if you guys have the time. Another interesting aspect is how the executives didn't really want to put out a Transformer line catering to collectors. That thought process, or sentiment, I'm sure has rolled over into GI Joe throughout the years in some form or fashion. A lot of little gems in this interview. Apparently if it's in one box, it counts as one item. We as fans should be focusing hard on pressing for seven packs. Not that we have much pull, but it's food for thought. Great interview all around!

7 packs of ARAH Joes and Cobras would be pretty sweet. Especially if they were reprints of the "Ultimate" lines.
