I have strong nostalgic memories of TRU from my childhood. Those memories are stoked when I fist walk into the seasonal section. Sadly those memories are dashed as soon as I clear the seasonal section. It's not just Joes and some will argue that Joes don't sell to the masses,(not I however). It's really most toy lines. Rows of pegs of undesired Marvel Legends languish on hooks while I travel to Walgreens to find the newer figures. It's a sad state of affairs for a toy store when a local pharmacy has a better selection of figures in their 4' toy area than an entire isle at TRU. Imagine in 1984 if you went to TRU for the new wave of figures but they only had Grunt and Zap? Sure Strom Shadow was tough to find but at least you could grab the rest of the line up.
Yes there were times when they loaded up on TFA figures- months after e-tailers offered them. And no one will convince me that True Heroes out sold any Joe line since 2007. Not with out hard data. Yet that garbage gets half an isle? I though it was just my local TRU but as I pop into locations upstate NY and in Florida I see more of the same. Isles either largely empty or stocked with figure from over a year ago that they refuse to slide over for the new stock. It's been a while since I found anything that I wanted in a TRU. I will miss TRU as I miss the Christmas Wishbook, but like many have already posted I have no sympathy. They did it to themselves. I guess their insisting to Hasbro on making 2 pack figures for that "total/complete experience" was just the corporate idiocy that I always felt it was. Star Wars, Joe, MotU, and so on never needed that in the 80s. Just more proof that the fools steering the ship should come on down to the galley and see what's really going on. Typical of a publicly traded company.

Man I miss those days of getting that figure then going to lunch, mom yelling at you not to open the figure or you'll loose the pieces. Getting Pizza or fast food grease all over the thing. Good times man. I regret the fact that I haven't had children yet and they will never know that experience as toys will most likely only be coming vis UPS.

Really wouldn't matter to me anyway. Not like I was finding any Joes there.

Not surprised. I don't know why I go in there anymore with no Joes. I have complained to the company for years for not stocking product, and not just Joes. I was saddened when Childrens palace left which during my childhood was better than TRU. I hate to see it go if it does but it did it to themselves. Most product is too expensive and as said never kept the right things in stock or restocked. They could never figure it out. While they may not have made a great deal of money from Joes they would have made plenty from all of us if product and distribution was better. My 2 cents

I'm surprised ToysR'Us is still in existence. Amazon offers the majority of what is being offered through ToysR'Us/BabiesR'Us at a cheaper price. TRU's online site is deceiving, making you think some things are in stock while they aren't. Amazon only shows whats available and gives you next day shipping. If they aren't willing to learn from what Amazon is doing and beat them at their own game, then they will continue to fail.

I wanted to say that given the gradual decline of the toy business, it was an accomplishment that TRU has lasted this long, however, numbers I found do not bear this out.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/...et-since-2005/ There was a dip from which the market is still recovering. Could TRU then sustain itself in the near future through BR relief? I am not that up on corporate bankruptcy. Then again, as amazon and online retailers keep applying pressure, maybe it can't.

Does this mean True Heroes *GASP, beat the stuffing out of them in the market place? Nope. It means Hasbro's so inconsistent at releases that True Heroes ate that whole aisle. Besides, I have yet to see Hasbro release anything that looks like a real life vehicle in a while besides the Vamp, so they're not even playing the same game anymore. |

I knew they were in trouble when the express stores started drying up. It's a shame, toy stores in general are becoming history, ToyMart, Lionel Playworld, KB Toys, now toys r us. It's madness, but to be fair, toys in general are almost a thing of the past, now it's all electronics.
