The location presents a ton of problems if you’re coming from the West Coast. And not just because of the distance (again I went to Florida last year which was great because despite the fact that it’s coast to coast distance and significantly farther than Chattanooga it’s a major destination and thus easy travel). Normally for a convention where I know I’m going to be buying a ton of stuff I would want to fly Southwest because a) they are generally already price competitive and b) they offer flying with twice the baggage of any other airline for FREE. Flying any other airline means I’m paying $100-200 more just for the baggage. And Southwest does not fly to Chattanooga airport so already the flight is more. Add to that the extra cost due to the connections and limited flight options and the flight is over twice what it should be. Then if you do all of those connections instead of only loosing 2 half days on travel you end up loosing 2 full days. This means if you want to do package pickup Thursday you have to fly Wednesday morning instead of flying Thursday morning. Likewise there is no way to fly back Sunday night. So now that means paying two extra nights in the hotel just because of travel limitations and missing 2 extra days of work. Normally for a show like JoeCon I would still be working Wednesday, flying early Thursday morning, in line for pickups/exclusives Thursday afternoon, and then checking into the room Thursday night. Then on the way out I would be checking out of the hotel Sunday morning, enjoying the Con all day Sunday, flying out that night, and then back to work Monday. With L.A. to Chattanooga none of that is an option. For instance with Florida it was a long flight but it’s essentially one flight so it’s only taking half a day. I got there a couple of days early to go to Disneyworld but I could have easily taken an early flight Thursday morning and arrived in time for package pickup. I arrived, got my bags, got an uber and was at the hotel—simple and easy, no car rental, no parking charges, no struggle. Same deal leaving, Sunday I got to enjoy the Con, stay till closing, then caught a flight that evening and was back on set Monday morning. No need to miss extra days of work, no need to pay for extra nights at the hotel, no paying extra for baggage or shipping boxes home, no loosing 2 entire days trying to catch various connecting flights in the airport, no renting a car, etc. That’s what I want for a convention destination. For the life of me I don’t understand why a national convention wouldn’t consider these things prior to deciding on a destination. This is why I didn’t go the years of Loveland and Springfield, and honestly if it weren’t likely the last one I wouldn’t even be considering Chattanooga right now. I’m still weighing it only because it’s the last one. If I was to do it I would likely fly into Kansas City (where I grew up) and spend a few extra days with the parents before borrowing their car and driving to Chattanooga. Combining this with a family visit is kinda the only way to justify all the extra effort Chattanooga creates and even though Kansas City is a ways away flying in/out of there would at least allow me to save a little on the flight, and not have to rent a car or spend extra nights in a hotel. The problem is adding the family time means being away from L.A. longer when I know that I’m really going to have story and production meeting and days on set I need to get back to and it’s a bad time to be away that long especially when I have to be away in San Diego for Comic Con just 3 weeks later. So I don’t know, I’m still deciding but it doesn’t feel likely based on destination. But if it was a major city with a major airport with direct flights no question I would be there.

Weird. I was never a fan of Slaughter's Marauders, or Python Patrol...but I kind of like this. Really want to see the figures first, but there's 3 or 4 that I'll consider getting, and I never bother with con stuff.

@ImportBishop -
Probably best to try and get any exclusives you want from either A) a friend/colleague going to the convention or B) eBay @Formulazl1 - Saturday is the first day for general attendees to get a crack at figures. Dealers do sell Con exclusives. See my previous response for other ways to get exclusives. |

There's a bus shuttle that makes 3 round trips/day from Chattanooga to Hartsfield Jackson airport. I see them on my morning commute all the time. Probably not that expensive. Look into it.
