IDW Reveals First Strike Tie-Ins, New G.I. Joe Series and More
Comic Book Resources just released an exclusive interview with IDW Editor David Hedgecock, which reveals the tie-ins the the upcoming First Strike event. Also revealed are the conclusions of several current Hasbro series and the launch of two new series that will spin out of the events of First Strike, G.I. Joe: Unmasked (which will bring together the Joes and M.A.S.K.) and ROM & the Micronauts. In addition, next week will see the release of the free First Strike #0, which will set the stage for the event and serve as a jump-on point for new readers. |

I really don't like them merging MASK with GIJOE and Rom with Micronauts.
It is a bold move on their part. It is ok to do once in a while but not if two titles are lost. It is cool that IDW has planned this series of stories in a 3 year arc. That I like. It shows dedication to the overall story and the characters. It is just sad that they don't feel confident enough in the titles to stand on their own two feet like Transformers.

I've enjoyed the Micronauts and ROM most of all out of the IDW Hasbro books. They've really captured the spirit of those characters and added depth to others.

Wow, the current Joe book is already dead at issue #9? This whole Hasbro comicsverse thing has "smoldering train wreck" written all over it.

Hola, I hope you are well
I think I got more than 4 or 5 years that not buying any IDW comic related to Gi Joe, I miss a lot DDP run....at least the called "reboots" on DDP had continuity. With IDW, every 1 year or less than 2 years direction of GI Joe comics changes drastically....losing interest for me Revolution was my hope..it was....BUT...too many actors of "different Universes", too much to follow up, Transformers, Mask, Action Man, Micronauts.... Would make sense a "universe" (earth, Fiction, war, spionage) as Gi Joe, Cobra, Action Man and from time to time get Mask involved, no more In other Universe (out of the earth, Space) Transformers, Micronauts.... IDW may do great as Challenge the next:What about step-in to start-continuity where DDP finished??????? Keep classical Gi JOe Universe. Cobra......Red Shadows...come on! GI Joe Universe is very rich. Do the right thing...get skillful writers as Mattew Reilly...Thank you |

No, it's getting relaunched. This isn't an unusual practice in comics these days.

It's just a renaming with the M.A.S.K. team joining the Joes, so calm down people.

Yeah, but not usually after 9 months. Publishers don't typically scrap and relaunch a series after such a short timespan if the series is doing well. I'd say this is a sure sign of underperformance. If IDW felt Joe and Mask could succeed as separate books, I'm sure that's what they'd be doing. And if they are underperforming, I can't say I'm surprised - the comics haven't been overly impressive so far.
