I got the opportunity to meet Mark Weber & Darryl DePriest at Joecon in Loveland CO. They were both very easy going, friendly and open to questions & ideas.
One of the most memorable parts of our discussions was when I expressed my desire for Hasbro to make a new, modern era APC. Mark Weber was very receptive to the idea & we had a great discussion about it. Darryl DePriest.... Not so much. He practically cringed at the idea. He was respectful, but I didn't get the same positive vibe that I got from Mark Weber. I hope Mark Weber didn't get fired, for taking my idea to the top brass!!! Mark, it was a pleasure meeting you & I wish you success at whatever you do next. Quote:
I just got off the phone with the Hasbro Corporate Office, after verifying that Mark Weber no longer appears in the Hasbro Global Registry anywhere.
It does not even list any Brand Manager for G.I. Joe, as if there is just a big gaping hole where G.I. Joe used to be. I was directed to try Edward Masiello (Senior Product Design Manager), to determine if he knows what is happening with G.I. Joe. But I thought that he was handling Transformers, unless that is a recent change too?

Wow. If you look at what he has accomplished in 2 years this does not look good for Joe fans.
We all know full well that Hasbro doesn't care anything about the brand. Without him at the helm I don't see much at all in the near future for Joe.

I'm definitely not an APC fan, LOL. A troop carrier, a.k.a. glorified carrying case isn't relevant when so few figures are being released anyway.
Now if he had cringed at the Mauler or WHALE, that'd be a different story. |

Good luck & Godspeed. Weber. Thanks for trying to do what you could for the brand while you had the chance.
Special thanks for our Gary Goggles figure. |

Dont know how to start a thread. And I know this is not fss related. But I'll post this here and let tge admins do what they want with it. Dont know how true this is but here ya go.
Anyone want to talk about this??!?!? From Mark Weber to the GI Joe a Discussion board. "Firstly, no disrespect intended by the image below to the flag I removed with my yellow belt Photoshop skills. I wanted to post a farewell to the G.I. Joe Discussion Group, as I am no longer working on the brand. I loved my time working on Transformers and G.I. Joe and I will remember my time at Hasbro fondly. I wish I had been working on G.I. Joe when the brand had more items allocated to it, but as a lifelong G.I. Joe fan and collector I’m grateful for the opportunity to work on the brand at all. I will always be proud that a few of my ideas made it into the history of G.I. Joe. Some of my personal highlights include: Fighting to get Sightline’s file name changed to “Gary Goggles.” Getting army builder figures packed TOGETHER in 2-packs. Championing Kindle Worlds and building the Fan Vote that produced Stiletto. Devising and building the hintless crossword puzzle to reveal the 2016 figure lineup. Writing the “Interrogator” filecard (my all-time favorite Cobra) and maybe one more down the line. Thanks to Brian Savage and Dave Lane for affording me the opportunity! Getting a female Cobra Officer figure made and FINALLY releasing Shooter – the long lost “14th Joe.” Pushing for all-new characters – hopefully starting the trend with Tombstone. Seeing Hasbro’s Brand Writer (without me requesting it) make Night Fox’s hometown Bend, Oregon – where I grew up and the place I’ll always consider home. Maybe there’s some red hair under that balaclava?? My favorite moments were attending my first two JoeCons and getting to interact with the diehard supporters of this franchise we all love. Crafting the Brand Panels and sharing the new figures and vehicles with the fanbase for the first time was an absolute rush. I made so many new friends in Pasadena and Loveland – thanks to everyone who made me feel so instantly welcome. I’ve been in this group the whole time, reading faithfully but not posting (per Hasbro’s policy). I’m under NDA and won’t be whispering secrets or hosting any “Q&A” sessions, but if I was helpful to you during my time on G.I. Joe, or if there was a product or figure you particularly liked over the last two years, I’d love to read about it in the comments section below. Thanks everyone!"

Met him at Con last year, hearing him talk about his childhood and his love of GI Joe really changed my opinion of a then unknown person in charge of GI Joe at Hasbro. I mean all we had was a name and a brief description of his previous work on Transformers when it was announced he was taking over.
But putting a face to the name, his memory to a story and his openness on product development for the previous line, was perfect and really gave me new insight on how things work. That being said, we're all damn lucky to have gotten what we got knowing the current state of GI Joe. Seriously guys, we were catered to in 2016 like no other brand would do for their fans.

I wish him well in all his future endeavors!! I will miss him greatly! There is no doubt he helped to make GI JOE great, as well as Transformers!

I don't find this surprising at all. There was barely any Joe product in the last few years. Plus, Hasbro is rebooting the brand to fit in with their shared universe plans. A new GI Joe retail line could be years away, so they really don't need a dedicated brand manager if nothing is being made.

April was probably the month when G.I. Joe was determined to be on another hiatus (I'm just guessing this part of the story), and that is why G.I. Joe doesn't seem to exist within Hasbro at the present. My guess is that we were going to learn this at JoeCon during a panel. I hope that I am wrong about this, but I don't think that G.I. Joe will even have a single mention at HasCon either this year. I just hope that G.I. Joe can eventually make a comeback, if the plug was pulled on it (as I strongly suspect it was). I am now wondering if the third G.I. Joe film was cancelled in April, and maybe we just don't know it yet...
