Guys - Can we steer away from the "SJW" bashing & praise? Sure, a piece of the article steered us that way..but can we not? I don't want to have to shut this down because of butthurt on both sides of the argument.
Thanks! |

Yep. I scratch my head every time someone mentions a Joe / TF crossover, since the TF movies already have that exact premise.

I've said since the first Transformers movie that they missed an opportunity for a shared universe when they didn't make the Special Forces unit Joes.
I say reboot the whole thing. You ground the Universe around the G.I.Joe team. They're humans with no super powers... But that's just me... As part of a Hasbro-centric universe, Transformers (as the most commercially successful franchise) would be at its center. G.I. Joe would be the elite human force that works alongside them (effectively replacing NEST). Instead of making G.I. Joe international in and of itself (I don't see this working given the distinctly American theme that "G.I. Joe" engenders), Hasbro should have separate teams that together form an international community (that may or may not always work together). We already have Oktober Guard to represent a Soviet team (which Hasbro could further develop). G.I. Joe would obviously be the American team and Action Force would be the U.K. team. Add to these other teams to represent countries that Hasbro would be marketing their toys in. That way, there is a team representing the national identity of each specific country Hasbro would be marketing in - as well other national teams that the collectors would want to acquire to complete their collections. Cobra could be the international villains supporting the Decepticons (or in Cobra Commander's mind, the Decepticons would be supporting Cobra) - here again, cooperation would not always be guaranteed. To give Cobra the edge, the Decepticons are more willing to share their technology with humans than the Autobots are (because both understand human nature), so that Cobra still has the higher-tech gear (and Hasbro could justify some REALLY advanced technology for them). If Cobra seems a bit too passe, then a new organization could take its place. The Red Shadows could be a sub-organization of Cobra or a semi-autonomous organization like the Iron Grenadiers. This whole organization should have a criminal theme (money/power) as its primary motivation to steer away from being related to terrorist organizations to better appeal to younger audiences. |

I think this idea is along similar lines to what Hasbro may do.

They could definitely pull away from military vs terrorism if the universe is centered around the Transformers instead of G.I.Joe. Go more sci-fi and use Joes like Sci-Fi, Flash, Dial Tone, Mainframe Hi-tech, etc. Of course Duke and Snake-Eyes will always be there. Bring in the Joe Defiant shuttle and take them into space. You're right. Have Cobra be a shadow organization infiltrating governments and be more about espionage instead of terror. But Hasbro can make any movie they want. As long as the figures kick @$$, the story can be anything we want it to be.

Ninja Force could be its own spin-off movie from the main Joe movie.

No. Because today's market isn't even interested in a military toy or story and Hasbro is somehow going to make cops and robbers not only interesting as a concept but an interesting side story to G.I. Joe? You'd get laughed out for not having a clue about interesting story telling and what resonates in today's market. The fact that the brands shared character names 30 years ago doesn't make an interesting story idea.
It's truly a terrible idea that would only be interesting to the most niche of an already niche fan base whose interests are strictly relegated to the replication of ideas from 30 years ago. Last edited by seaneley; 03-28-2017 at 06:01 PM.. |

Actually, not. I say spin it off to keep all the Ninja stuff out of the hypothetical main Joe move. lol

I liked COPS and the capgun weapons, and the show was decent at the time. Nothing wrong with trying to make cops heroes again. When we were kids we played cops and robbers all the time. Before Chips. After Chips. SWAT, Dragnet, TJ Hooker, Police Woman, Adam 12, There were a lot of cop shows before we got Hill Street Blues that were action shows. I guess the Joes could recruit from them, they did so with Shockwave. It would be odd to see them working together though. Usually cops and state troopers wind up working with the National Guard only as a last resort. In the comics the Joes do work with police or even butt heads with them. Battle Force 2000 ran a toll booth and state troopers chased them all over New Jersey. Captain Cohoe was persistent. In the movie, you could have a scene where the cops were getting their butts kicked by Cobra and the Joes were called in by the Governor to assist. Plenty of room for Long Arm or Mace to show up. I think the real logistical problem is that COPS takes place in the future, after the Joes time. There could however, be all new Joes they work with.
