I hope it's true, but there have been rumors of this before and I think Walsh has even said that it would happen in the near future before and it never materialized. Until the big studio makes their announcement they can pull the rug out from under the project at any time. Walsh has been saying he is in possession of the master tapes for a long time, so they definitely should have the ability to put out a high quality release. I'm not sure if a big studio like Sony can be trusted to do a nice, complete release though. I'd be concerned they might strip it down into a scaled-down, marketable package without complete music.

Just read the AllSpark thread and the guy says that music by Johnny Douglas will not be featured. He claims that won't affect Transformers much because Walsh took the show over early on. But M.A.S.S. Device aired a year before Transformers, originated a good chunk of the Joe score used throughout the series, and at least some sources say it may have been entirely done by Johnny Douglas. Then they throw in that only a Johnny Douglas disco track originating in Spider-Man may not be included, so it's very unclear what the status of the Douglas G.I. Joe music is going to be.

I recently listened to a set I found online, which still had sound fx cues in some songs, but it was good enough for a good listen. I hope we eventually get all the Sunbow era audio tracks, including that from the movie. Just started watching the Dic episodes & I find the music... less enjoyable. Sort of has that generic 90s straight-to-home-video-movie-score sound to it.

Is there really a market for this? Outside of the theme song, and I watched most of the episodes of the original series as a kid, nothing stands out.

There is for me. I've listened to the bootleg tracks as well and love most of them. The Transformers 1986 cartoon movie score got a release at an early Botcon and just got an official studio release a year or two ago. Last year, a He-Man cartoon score album was released by one of the movie/TV score-focused CD companies. They had previously included a small selection of music on a bonus CD in a He-Man DVD package.

The 1987 Joe movie is all re-used score from the Joe and Transformers series, so there's no reason to do a separate release.

The statements on whether Johnny Douglas' music would be included are pretty unclear. He did the first two mini-series, so if they couldn't include any of that, a lot of iconic Joe score would be missing from the release. Probably most of what would be left would be music used on both the Joe and Transformers shows, so there might be no point in doing a separate Joe release if that's what they're limited to.

This is indeed good news, because I always wanted those songs from the original cartoon... That score was such unique and it panned really good with the action in the cartoon.

There were some song that were shared between those Sunbow cartoons. Example Tansformers an GI JOE in action songs.

There is no comparison between Sunbow scores for the cartoons to DIC's songs.
