i REALLY love this continuity. Hama's ARAH has meant more to me than the greats like Grant morrison, Neil Gaiman, Jamie deleno, James robinson, Alan moore, Ann nocenti, Mike Allred, early Frank Miller, etc. BUt i want the continuity to NOT contradict the past continuity but inject new ideas, recruits (especially, post-2000 cobra vipers, drivers, troops, vehicles, etc). I want it to give up the retro-look and become more visually stimulating. sales need to escalate and for that to happen, readers need to let the company know how you feel-what you like, what you don't. this is an adult title and should be treated as such. not meaning cussing or the like but mature themes that focus on character development, adult situations, HOW SCARLETT FEELS LOSING S.E. We need to progress strongly and loudly to call those who tire of the status-quo to see a serial that actually DOES change.

Hi Plague,
You make some very good points. I still love getting an issue every month, or every two weeks lately! However, the story does not feel like it has much danger to it. Remember when Brandon Jerwa was writing for DDP? You felt like almost any character could die. Jerwa's writing had a certain Game of Thrones quality to it and Robert Atkins really brought the characters to life. I think SL Gallant does a wonderful job of drawing the vehicles, but I am tired of every character looking so skinny that they are wearing baggy clothes. These are military soldiers that are quite fit. I am not suggesting that they should look like superheros, but a little muscle mass would go a long way. What I really want to see happen in this comic, is to have some characters actually FIGHT! We have seen a million panels of Psyche Out, MainFrame, Lady Jaye and Duke in the Pit discussing strategy. I want to see Gung Ho and Shripwreck in the trenches firing at Hiss Tanks. I want to see Big Boa and Mercer in a fist fight. I want to see Destro and Baroness back in Cobra Commander's employee. I want to see Outback, Foot Loose and Recondo and braving the elements in the Jungle. Let's see Hawk, Leatherneck Dial Tone and Beach Head in the middle of a war zone taking fire from an army of BATS. Basically, take any of the card art pictures and tell a story around it! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Larry Hama. He is the man and he inspires me to write. It just feels like he is writing under stricter restrictions than his time at Marvel. It feels like no actual Hasbro character can die. The only characters that have passed away, are the ancillary ones that Hama created. End of the day, I LOVE getting a new GI JOE comic from HAMA each month so I have little to complain about. I was so depressed after issue 155 came out in 1994 signaling the end of the story. I really want it to keep going!

by the way, I meant Tim Seeley. Seeley and Robert Atkins are my all time favorite artist. They are both very cool guys too. I was lucky to meet them at a VA comicon a few years ago. They are both AWESOME!

What CC1 said.
But I will also take non-action, situational-dialogue when done with intriguing purpose! From Soft Master to Storm Shadow (talk of revenge, etc.), Stalker to the the White Clown (imprisoned in Borovia, etc.)...and lots more that left me believing they were humans. Hama's current writing is trying with Duke, but it's going to take a lot more. Everyone else feels like 2-D cardboard cut-outs of themselves, with very little reason to care about them.

Hi Ozzie92,
yes - I agree that dialogue that fleshes out the characters is integral to good story telling. I am enjoying the examination into Duke's private life. Hama similarly explored Grunt's life a few years ago. We need to feel like we are invested in the characters enough, so that we care about them when they are in danger. I find that I do not really care about Sean Collins as Snake Eyes. To me, he will always be Kamakura. I loved Kamakura in the DDP run, and yet I am irritated every time I see him masquerading as Snake Eyes. I thought the idea of killing off SE was to give more camera time to the countless other characters of GI JOE. Instead, we get the image of SE, without the characters. It is truly an odd mixture. I think it would be cool if the original SE returned wearing his Ninja Force colors! I loved the Ninja Force arc back in the mid-90s and the artwork then was exceptional. Also, I wish that Cobra Commander would return to his black uniform. The black hooded Cobra Commander figure is my favorite!

Yes! Grunt's struggle with what to do with his life was great! Another example is Rip-Cord's struggle with relationship, especially after realizing Candy was the daughter of a Crimson Guardsman. Hama dropped the ball on the scene where Rip-Cord learns of her fate, though. Weak scene that could have had us explore how Rip-Cord dealt with his anguish and moved on.
You're right about Fake Eyes, too. He's simply SE minus the heart/soul/reason I put up with his over exposure.
