The article doesn't say that.
It says "in development", which can mean a lot of things and none of it means "will be coming anytime soon". Nothing in that article really says that Hasbro will have more creative control over Joe movies, that a Joe movie is coming anytime soon or that it won't be connected to MASK/Micronauts.

True, I just figured the moderator who posted the story before the jump knew what he was talking about when he made that comment, having talked to his source:
"Speaking to Toy World Magazine (January 2016 Issue) Hasbro stated that G. I. Joe 3 is in production."

I don't think anyone here talked to the source, it reads more that Hasbro was talking to the magazine.

But I do admit, using the word "production" instead of "Development" was a bad decision on my part. Allow me to correct that. |

Wait, WTF!!!!!
They're making Transformers 5, 6, 7 & 8???? I guess as long as it breaks the box office the film itself could be a turd wrapped in CGI scrap metal for all they care. As far as having more creative control I don't understand what direction is driving G.I. Joe forward. Why is it so hard to just get a solid cartoon greenlit for the Cartoon Network? Or, why not release a series of well done animated movies each year like DC does for Superman and Batman? For a live action G.I. Joe film to capture the grand battlefield scenes that the iconic cartoon series is known for the budget would be through the roof and too much of a risk for Paramount to give a serious consideration. So why not knock out a few good animated features to re-establish the core and develop a new fan base prior to blindly pouring more money into a toyline that doesn't perform well in retail because there's no backing for it?
