I actually emailed Marauder John about the head sculpts and updates on the Vietnam KS last week. Here was my email:
John & Crew, First, thanks for all you guys do to make the action figure customizing community great. I have just have a few quick questions, if you have time to send a response. Whatever happened to the hard-copy prototypes for the Vietnam Kickstarter figures? Did they get lost on a shipping container? Basically, same question about new head sculpts that were revealed a year or so ago -- the female head sculpts and the action series male head sculpts (Snake, Arnie, etc.) Could you update/post pics of the Vietnam Viet Cong and North NVA designs without their gear on? Particularly I'm interested in what the collars will look like. I presume the Viet Cong black pajamas won't have a folded collar, but the NVA figure will. Any info you can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks! John's reply was: Hey J! Greetings! We'll post an MTF Vietnam update sometime after Joefest. All designs are done, most prototypes are complete and tooling has started on all approved designs. LOTS of figures in the series, so everything is processed in stages as each item completes the each development step. Each figure prototype set costs us thousands of dollars, so we are trying to save money and have only set made for tooling. Nothing has been lost, but we are experiencing serious production delays due to the current world issues (the new head series is top on that delay list). The VC have a thin collar (see attached original sculpt reference design sheets). Our research also found larger collars (see the VC image holding the RPG in the sculpt reference image), but went with the thinner style. LOTS of stuff to do and so little time. Thanks again! Marauder-John M-GR I've attached the image John sent me of the original drawings of the VC figures. It shows were the plug holes on the attachments will be. Jason |

It's very interesting that the original drawings are dated "'19" showing that John & Team have had the 'Nam KS planned for quite some time!

Yeah I expected that. If Marauder could make the heads look that good there really wouldn't be much competition, and I probably wouldn't be buying Classified or Black Series. Those are chefs kiss as the cool kids say.

yeah, I was very unhappy that the NAM Kickstarter seemed much less polished than their previous campaigns, despite having much longer to prepare for it.
We were used to seeing maybe a painted prototype for a few figures, and 3D renders for all of them during the campaign.. and here we are with the NAM stuff years in development and they still don't even have 3D renders? Last edited by Dusty777; 06-20-2022 at 01:28 PM.. |

That was the main reason I only backed very small on that campaign. Thought of just skipping completely actually.

Keep in mind the reaction to this KS was so great, we funded all of their conceived Stretch Goals, and they had to scramble to create new Stretch Goals at the end. Plus, I'm pretty sure this KS has the most variations of uniform & head sculpt designs of any KS. So, fingers crossed that we might see some updates next week! Jason |

Nice to see more pics of those painted head sculpts. I’m loving the Commando Arnie and Kurt Russell inspired heads.

From the Vietnam construction sketches, what's POM? Looks like the hands aren't made to be swappable with the big flat disc at the end.
