Do they have a front-flap up boonie cap in the KS? We need that for Dickie, anyways.

One thing on the boonie hats shown in the mock-ups, someone either on FB or the KS comments asked about a black boonie for the Female VC, and MJ responded that there is already a black boonie in the online store. He probably didn't mean the comment this way, but it has me wondering whether the LRRP boonie hat will be the same one available in the store just in a camo paint pattern? I mean, it's a cool boonie hat, but it would be nice for the added variety. I know MJ has confirmed that the beret for the Green Beret figures will be a different mold with the fold tighter to the side of the head. My son is in the Army and anytime he has to wear his dress uniform, he spends waaay too much time trying to flatten that fold down close to his ear. LOL! Jason |

My first thought for the new figure is a Big Boss / Naked Snake custom since that's reasonably close to the default look he has in MGS3.
Only real difference (webgear aside) is that he wears a black undershirt. And his pants are slightly longer. |

I'm no expert on Vietnam history, but from what little bit of Google image searching I did, I don't see a whole lot of differences between some of the camo uniforms the Marine Recons wore and the Army OG-107. In fact, some of the pics look just like OG-107 camo uniforms. Looking at the KS mock-up drawings, it looks like the main difference in some of these figures is the pockets--OG-107 having bigger pockets at an angle vs the square straight pockets.
I'm kind of going off of a reply I made to someone's comment on the KS site, but, to me, it looks like with many of these specialty groups (Recon, LRRP, Green Beret, etc.) that there was a lot of cross-over of uniforms, gear, etc. Meaning, you should be able to slap a green beret on a LRRP action figure and have a variant Special Forces figure and vice versa. Now concerning the Field Cap (mentioned in another post), MJ said on FB that they went with the field cap (1) to offer it in green through the KS and (2) because he's seen pics of Marine Recon wearing the field cap. Again, I'm no Vietnam historian, but from the approx. 100 photos I've seen on Google of "Marine Recon Vietnam" I can't find one photo of a Marine Recon wearing a field cap. In fact, there seems to be a pattern of Marine Recon wearing a boonie hat with the front flap pulled up--not sure if this was group "thang" or not. But honestly, if I were MJ, I'd swap that green field cap out with a new boonie hat in ERDL camo (whether the existing boonie available on their site, the new LRRP boonie, or an even newer boonie with just the front flap pulled up). I think the fans/supporters, especially Marine veterans, would appreciate a Marine Recon figure a little truer to its historical counterpart. And MJ can say that they'll offer a boonie in ERDL in the online store after the KS, but they could just as easily offer a green field cap in the online store. As we say down south, "it's six in one hand, and half a dozen in the other." Hopefully they change out the field cap with some type of boonie. I am excited about them offering a figure in an ERDL-type camo pattern. The variety from this KS alone will supply fodder for A LOT of GIJoe customs. Jason |

No. The closest is the double flap boonie with the SEAL Shot-gunner. I agree we need a front-flap boonie to add to the hat variety.

Jason MJ mentions alternate colored items will be in his store because sorting orders with JUST what comes in the KS is crazy enough; adding varied skin tones would likely cause his helpers to lose their minds on such a huge undertaking. I think I understand that, as most Marauder orders I hear about have a couple of mistakes made, albeit, they are good about correcting. Let’s ask for that front flap up boonie cap on the marine recon.

And here I thought there would be more excitement for a uniform that is close to 80s/90s BDUs to customize with

I was Security Police in the USAF, and we cut out the inner cardboard sewn inside the front part of our berets to allow for better flexibility. Of course, we also had smaller, metal badges, where today’s troops seem to have giant, sewn-on badges that make the beret sit way too high on their heads, lol.

I may have to look for one of those on eBay. Jason |

There seems to be a lot more griping/nitpicking/complaining around this KS (here and elsewhere) than I remember from past ones, much of it not really constructive.

1. Special Forces with giraffe camo and bush hat 2. Tank Crew with tanker helmet, vest, .50 cal UPDATE: saw a guy's comment on FB that MJ said to him in an email or PM that they are trying to work that tanker helmet into a future stretch goal. MJ has mentioned an older head sculpt (not an officer, but an tough soldier) and a new head sculpt with a mustache. Neither of which have been revealed yet. I'd bet starting this weekend, MJ will start pumping out even more reveals like digital mock-ups and even prototypes. Jason

I think it was kind of expected. At this point in the game, without just bankrupting their tooling expenses, MGR is kind of limited (IMHO) to the remainder of the Stretch Goals. I sound like a broken record, but I could see (hope) for:

Oh, and I am excited about the ERDL. What I’m not excited about is the possibility that I’ll really want to redo all my existing woodland camo customs when I see it in hand.
