Just saying this book is awesome! If u went to JoeCon u got see some of the stuff that will be in it. It is crazy about how much the figures changed from the initial design to the final product. I am getting this! especially for how big the book is!

My problem is not with the book size or content. I simply do not have $85 at one time to spend not on bills. Being poor does not make me a bad collector, just one who is disappointed alot.

Totally agree on last point. "Worth it" & "afford it" are two different conversations...

Giving this a bump, it is not looking good for the sales. I understand not having the money but please consider only one of these pre-production art pieces would cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars and you can own scores of them in this book for a fraction of that!

This sounds like a neat idea but there are a few problems with the sales pitch and they all revolve around not enough information.
85 bucks is a lot of scratch in this day and age and I'd need to know more about what we're getting. Is it hardcover? Personally, I don't need a hardcover; a good softback like Bellamo's books is fine. How many pages? How many volumes are planned? Again, I love the concept, but if it's going to be a three (or honestly even two) volume set at 85 a piece - w/out even the guarantee of getting the remaining volumes, then I'm out. Need the In-fo. Furthermore, I'm looking at Steel City Publishing and they seem pretty basic; their last website update was February with a promised upgrade in March and now nothing. Not a good sign (assuming that's them). If this book is supposedly compiled and ready to go, something like Createspace puts out well-bound materials at pretty low cost and it can even be print-to-order. My company uses them for our manuals that have to be updated and reprinted regularly and they're good, sturdy books. Lastly, while I appreciate that "a portion of the profits will go to..." that doesn't mean much and - call me a cynic - past experience suggest that "a portion" tends to equal "very little". I'm not saying it's the case here, but a clear percentage would be a good idea. I expect that if some of these questions were answered, there might be some more interest. Dan stated on Twitter that it is "9x10, Hard cover..250+ pages..." I agree with some of your points that more PR would be helpful as well.

Haha, it says in the sample pages that one of Metal-Head's other possible names was "Squash-head Harry". It's almost worth buying for that alone.

Createspace gives you the benefit of handling the inventory and distribution through Amazon complete with royalties. Their per book cost if you buy it direct from them to distribute is only 18.35 for as little as 50 copies! I'd love for this to succeed... Last edited by Dake; 07-07-2015 at 06:49 PM.. |

Well, the site has been seized by Cobra!
So I guess the book has been cancelled/delayed? It looked very cool, but also very expensive. |

All contributors received the following email:
"First off, I want to sincerely thank you for your purchase of the book during this pre-sale period. Since the pre-sale began, several positive things have occurred which may affect the future of the book. With these events, I will be cancelling the pre-sale and will be sending back a full refund immediately on your purchase. I have kept all of your contact information for future reference and when I have more information on the future release of the book, you’ll be the first to know. Forgive me for being so vague, but understand that my goal has always been to put out the best book possible to ALL fans of G.I. Joe! Again, I cannot thank you enough for your support over the last few years and I am excited to see what the next few months will bring! THANK YOU AGAIN!!" Sounds like he may have a different strategy that may address concerns... |
