Paolo Villanelli is for me the last hope for the ARAH title.

I love ARAH, and I personally think it just keeps getting better and better (I know a lot of folks aren't of that opinion). But one Joe book? Should we be worried? I thought they were going to push for new media tie-ins. How are you supposed to do that if there is limited media?

Well...
Snake Eyes: Agent of Cobra has wrapped, and Karen Traviss's Joe book was CANCELED after issue 8 From what I hear, IDW really doesn't have any real plan for GI Joe, aside from Hama's Joe book and the vs Transformers book. I'm inclined to say that IDW might well be waiting for Hasbro to do something with GI Joe before launching a new series. Right now, their Transformers books are seeing a big push thanks to the toy tie ins, but GI Joe barely has a toy line at the moment. And the IDW-oriented pushes haven't garnered HALF the attention the 2012 "soft relaunch" of Transformers, much less the fan or critical positivity. I personally think it is time to end the current IDW universe and start over, or do a massive revamp tied to a fresh idea from Hasbro. Because the same old "realistic Joe" clearly working at all.

It's a shame because Traviss has some chops, and could have done some neat stuff. Unfortunately, those horrendous covers hurt some of the appeal of the series...and there was virtually no feedback about it anywhere....

I and several others started threads about it here, went nowhere, and most people in my Joe/TF circles dropped the book after issue 4 (at best, I dropped at issue 3, I think). The covers I don't think did anymore to hurt the series than the boring as all hell story and writing that was being done.
For how "integral" the comic has been to GI Joe over the decades, I think it says something when the current "core" book is completely and utterly ignored by a majority of the fandom. And I think the books are suffering the same issue the toyline has: it is just sitting there spinning its gears, and the few times an interesting angle is introduced (I'm a BIG fan of the Volume 3 run which had the previously "secret war" being put into the public eye) it is quickly dropped for "the same old, same old" of boring military thriller (because that is "what the fans want"). For what it is worth, I largely ignored the Transformers comics until the "soft relaunch" in 2012 which actually did something to change up the long standing status quo: end the age long Autobot/Decepticon war and go from there. Maybe it's time for GI Joe and Cobra to see that sort of change up.

Are you kidding me? Did you even read that run of G.I. Joe? It was sleepy, drawn out and had no action at all. That run was by far the low of IDW's work on G.I. Joe. I 100% agree with you on this. I think it's the one way HISSTANK.com can improve the site and we will focus on what IDW does from now on. As you have seen over the last 2 Months we have started to shed light on what to read, read orders, and current content. Expect that continue...... good or bad we will be looking at every book.

I think IDW has some of the best G.I. Joe content ever put out for fans of the brand. The numbers don't lie. You need to bring on writers like Mike Costa that can provide content that develops characters and brings them into modern times.
I mean really, look at the cover of #218. Snake Eyes is dead for 5 minutes, and his replacement is already diving into his role on the cover of the main title. January 2009 G.I. Transformers is doing slightly better (though, I suspect get a boost from Hasbro's toy line integration), but you guys DON'T want to see the My Little Pony sales numbers...
