So...what do you guys suggest?
Seriously, trimming paint or accessories or packaging clearly aren't enough to offset the higher PRODUCTION COSTS associated with figures with MORE articulation (Remember, Marvel Infinate and Star Wars Black 4" figures are now $13). Hasbro tried all that with the Dollar General Joes, but prices are still too high to meet even that standard (unless you guys want Joe to become a higher articulated copycat of The Corps). The sad fact is that the current market and manufacturing situation just isn't conducive to 4" super articulated action figures at a pricepoint everyone wants. Also, I don't see the fuss about the articulation in the RB legs: they are FUNCTIONAL, and I never saw the double jointed knee as being terribly useful anyway. Ankles are fine, but just wait a few years when your toys start falling over as the joint wears out. A large part of the reason I came back into collecting Joe in 2007 with the 25th Anniversary line was because of the heightened articulation of the figures over what I had as a child. The Retaliation parts with single joint knees and no ankle articulation are a step backwards in the standard set 8 years ago. Also, I'm paying twice the cost I paid 8years ago for lesser quality. This is unacceptable. |

My big issue is the plastic quality- the current plastic Hasbro is using for ALL of its action figure lines is much lower quality, yet pricing, especially on non-Joe lines, keeps going up. I'd be willing to pay more for figures that are pre-Retaliation quality.

$15 really isn't a good "entry" point for a product line. It works for a limited exclusive line like this, but it's not going to fly when Hasbro takes the line back to mass retail.

Which was accomplished by almost no new toolings (Gung Ho, some parts on Storm Shadow, Chuckle's head and maybe a new helmet on Ace, and that's it), a LOT of reruns (no new deco designs), no single packs (a big thing for many) and despite that, a 2 pack is still $15.
$15 really isn't a good "entry" point for a product line. It works for a limited exclusive line like this, but it's not going to fly when Hasbro takes the line back to mass retail. If Hasbro goes back to single carded figures for the next movie (which is almost guaranteed) we will likely see figures at $10- or more, easily if they remain super articulated. I don't expect less. I'm okay with that too. I'll pay more to get high quality figures. What I won't do is pay the same or more as I have been paying and get lower quality figures. This price point for single figures may not be for everyone, but in the current market its comparable to other lines. Will this price hurt sales for an already struggling brand or will the price simply be accepted? It's debatable and I can only speculate.... |
