Hasbro has officially announced today via Hunter PR that G.I. Joe will not be on display at Toy Fair 2015.
"G.I. Joe will not be part of Hasbro's presence at this year's show. We are planning our 2015 G.I. Joe product reveals for this year's G.I. JoeCon in Springfield, Illinois from April 9-12." While this is disappointing news to us all as G.I. Joe fans, we still have a lot to look forward to later on in the year. Having that huge press push from Toy Fair is normally a huge opportunity for any brand. I think the new G.I. Joe Team is hitting the ground running, and there may not be much to show other then what is on paper at this point. It's all a waiting game! Make sure to sound off on the HISSTANK.com forums after the jump.

If Hasbro does have plans for G.I. Joe in 2015 and they are not showing/soliciting them to retailers at Toy Fair 2015 we may not see product until the fall, other then what they decide to do at SDCC 2015.

As of today, looking at the Toy Fair exhibitor list, Hasbro is not registered to show at all.

Hasbro has a private showroom off site. They will be there but no Joe or Star Wars movie product will be shown this year.

So, pretty much confirms 2015 will be a "50th phase 2" sort of deal. We'll see what the new Joe team does this year.
Again, 2016, I'm still banking on being interesting.

Eh, I may be in the minority here, but I think it's a win/win for Joe fans:
*There's no rush to get something "out there" by Toy Fair, which can be a very positive sign that planning is under way. *Joe fans have felt like the stepchild of the bunch. What a great way to show the fans that there's reason to celebrate by sharing info at JoeCon instead of earlier (Granted, there might not be anything to share at an earlier date, but I'd prefer to take the positive route). |

It may take that long to really try to change things.

I said this in another thread, but regardless of rather or not Hasbro now has big plans for GI Joe in 2015 or not this doesn't surprise me. The development cycle for toys is a lengthy one and given the timeline there would have been no way they could have had something new to show in time for Toy Fair.
But with that said the fact that they clearly need more time could be a good sign because it does indicate they will be bringing new things to the table and not just 50th phase 2 stuff that we've already seen. It's also a good sign that it sounds like Hasbro will be present at Joe Con.

We'll see. I'm hoping for some product. I'm glad we're getting some reveals at Joecon, but some teasers at Toy Fair wouldn't be something that I'd be averse to.

HASBRO and their clueless marketing.
I'd rather see them do NOTHING in 2015 in order to get their ducks in a row and do a proper and full relaunch in 2016. The reality of it is that you NEED to present at toy fair to encourage and elicit interest and buzz. Launching and debuting (re-re-re-redebuting?) at a convention that is only attended by the most hardcore fans and the same people year in and year out has yet another FAIL stamped all over it. |
