I did pick and choose and use some of the renegades stuff.
But I don't care for just any old crap with a Gi Joe label slapped on it. On the other hand I will use anything that actually fits in with the good real stuff, Hell I used Dukes of Hazard and Buck Rogers O ring guys back in the day and anything that fits these days... I use spray paint can lids as engine and transmission cans for our figures. But WHEN they do the garish exaggerated jaws and cheeks and giant faces on them as a result of the new animation I will pass on it.

I just mean guys about 4 inches tall with sort of realistic faces.
and I think I am on the right track just because if I assume the worst knowing how marketing gaffots treat properties like this, I can follow the progression to the next step, plus they always follow a predictable pattern and never have any hint of original thought. They will make goofy Clone wars style stuff, and it WILL flop within two waves. We all loved this so much... http://www.panelsonpages.com/wp-cont...09/07/fig2.jpg The only way I will buy any of it is vehicles if it is sort of in scale with the real stuff and they use the abortion of a line to either reissue old vehicles or create new ones in the classic style. the silly cartoony faced figures they are going to make can rot on the pegs I wont ever get the first one. G.I. Joe as we know it is presently a failed brand. Funny thing though: Without some "Marketing guys" back in the late 70's/early 80's, you never would have gotten the G.I. Joe YOU love. And there were, in fact, 12" fans/collectors that weren't happy about the change, and yet it led to some of the greatest success the brand ever had. Whatever comes next for Joe may not be what WE like, but it may well have a better chance at success than retreading the same characters and mythos a thousand times expecting different results. It may well be the next generation's G.I. Joe that they love, even if that means us having to let go and Hasbro moving on from us. Of course, let's not forget that Hasbro is a business that exists to make money for its' shareholders like any other business...NOT to please collectors. |

I can't get too excited about this. Dreamworks Animation is a distant third and falling further behind quickly in animation. They've had more duds than hits the past few years. But the worst thing about it is if it happens, it kills any chance of Disney buying Hasbro.
The NY Times had a great point too: A combined Hasbro-DreamWorks could be messy in one regard: Hasbro holds extremely lucrative contracts with Disney, which has long seen DreamWorks Animation as its primary cartoon competitor. (Mr. Katzenberg is a former chairman of Walt Disney Studios.) As a toy partner, Hasbro gets early access to private information about films in Disney’s pipeline. Hasbro controls certain global rights through 2020 to Marvel and “Star Wars” characters, two of Disney’s most important properties. Starting in 2016 — under a new contract — Hasbro will take over the doll license from Mattel for Disney’s “Frozen” and Princess lines. Some analysts estimate that Disney-related sales make up 30 percent of Hasbro’s business. The main benefit to Hasbro will be in making all the toys for any future Dreamworks movies, more so than from Dreamworks making movies based off of old Hasbro toys. That's been pretty hit or miss really. Transformers was a hit, Battleship was a miss, G.I. Joe has been barely worth the trouble. Ouija was a good moneymaker for them though, so there's a chance they'll go for some more low cost stuff like that. |

Disney should just buy Hasbro and be done with it.
