Attempt to garner new registerees to spawn site? Sorry, not buying it (not directed towards OP, but rather the person quoted).
However, glad to know--false or not--that somebody out there still thinks people care/pay attention to Joe...because we exist!!!

It might be legit. Emphasis on "might." It's not the kind of personnel move that'd likely get much press or even necessarily be announced publicly until maybe Toy Fair.
If the guy's got bona-fides as far as working on the Transformers line (he mentions it in one of his posts) and basically has been verified as being who he says he is...there's a reasonably good chance it's true. Plus it's looking like Hasbro's doing some personnel shuffling based on some of the other headlines and such, so the timing is right (and they'd need to be starting to get ducks in a row for G.I. Joe 3 product development about now anyway if it's an early 2016 release). Last edited by Jmacq1; 10-22-2014 at 07:29 AM.. |

I don't think the guy was "announcing" it on other boards. There hasn't been an official announcement, and probably won't be one until Toy Fair (if even then, chances are if there is a re-imagining of Joe, NOTHING will be ready for Toy Fair). Maybe at least there will be an introduction of the new brand team.
I think this was just a guy responding to a post. Nothing more, nothing less.

To be fair, he's not "announcing it" and it comes off as talking about his job which doesn't have much bearing on a Spawn message board (Hasbro doesn't make Spawn toys). While there IS a Mark Weber (and worked at McFarlane) who has been heavily involved with Transformers over the past few years, my big red flag is that Hasbro has long been pretty tight about not posting stuff online. Then again, maybe it only applies to lines they are working on at the time?
My take, assuming this is accurate: I find it interesting he used the term "relaunch". The last two times I've seen that term used on conjunction with Joe was 2002's Joe vs Cobra and 2005's Sigma Six. Even 25th/ME was never called a "relaunch" (more like a sideline that grew into the mainline). So I'm curious to see what this entails going forward. Depending on when he took the job (as of this summer, he was still doing Transformers stuff, including being at Botcon), we still might not see anything of this until 2016's Toy Fair. Which if the brand is dead in the water, might realistically take that long to get something significant going. Nothing seems overly out of place, but I'm going to chalk this up to rumor for now.

He posted the same on his own Facebook page and was "liked" by John Warden.
Take that as you will. But yeah, there won't be an announcement from Hasbro until there is something for Joe at a Toy Fair (2015, 2016) and he's introduced to do the presentation. And we've all known (or should have realized) that G.I. Joe needs a relaunch to get going at retail again. The use of that word shouldn't be a surprise.

Getting away from Snake Eyes, Duke, Cobra Commander, Destro, etc? And just introducing a whole new team with new code names? Or keeping the same characters/code names but a different plot? Like getting away from the military/terrorist aspect and making it more like Adventure Team or Avengers? Or keeping the same Joe/Cobra characters but maybe exploring a different marketing technique to help bring the parents around to buying Joes for their kids and for the kids to actually wanting anything Joe related? |
