While I give him props for what he was able to do with MOTU given the restrictions of the format, I'm VERY hesitant to get too optimistic. As good a job as he did (in the areas he had control of), often it felt like he was letting his fandom desires override the needs of the brand. While this is likely true of MANY brand managers, his public position seemed to intensify that view (and serves as the PERFECT EXAMPLE of why companies keep a wide gap between themselves and the collectors). Having fans in positions of control can be nice, but in the end, won't matter if sales for the brand don't justify investment. That said, with Hasbro's increasing push to "split" its product lines for kids and collectors, maybe there IS something to bringing a guy like him on board. But my concern is that, in the interest of serving fans, we keep GI Joe where its at now, a non-growing brand that retailers don't care about. Again, for the all the success of MOTU, even at its height during 2009-2011, it was never able to grab any real retail foothold, and after the speculators left, the line has STRUGGLED to keep afloat the last couple years. And I'm not sure if there was any desire to do some in some respects. Whether it was on Scott's part or a higher level at Mattel, I'm not sure.

Not necessarily. Granted, he was a driving force for MOTU, and likely managed to get things going when others might not have, but he was still beholden to business fundamentals. And remember, indications are that Grayskull itself wasn't a roaring success and only barely reached production on a margin slim enough that any future playsets were immediately written off.
