Little late now but I still feel the "gold" classics would have been better received from the start had they been painted like the vintage comic art on the cards, with the gold more of a mustard yellow and 70-80s era blue inks. How striking would that look?!
Does one have to get an invitation to that Facebook group? |

Does one have to get an invitation to that Facebook group? Personally the original designs just aren't as interesting as some of new stuff Bill has come up with. Maybe you're right about the yellow though. I guess the time to test it would have been the first wave. Could have had Capt. Eagle and Sgt. Brown in two decos: toy gold and comic yellow. Then he would've seen which sold better. |

As someone who had a tiny handful of Eagle Force figures from the original run (when my hands were pretty tiny themselves), the shiny gold actually _is_ a big appeal for me. I probably threw away the packaging the same day I got them and hadn't thought about that aspect until seeing them again on the internet years later. But those shiny metal figures lasted a lot longer.
I think it's pretty clear that the number of old people who still have a ton of affinity for a failed 40-year-old figure line that was immediately eclipsed by GI Joe isn't overwhelmingly large, but just speaking personally I wouldn't have been as interested in mustard yellow versions. Might make a quick and easy variant for Bill to try out, though. I do suspect the shiny gold turned off more modern buyers than it attracted middle-aged ones. ;) |

I never had EF as a kid (and I’m 47 now), but I really like the gold classics. I think they’ll look great together, now that enough are getting made.

I do suspect the shiny gold turned off more modern buyers than it attracted middle-aged ones. ;) It reminds me of a thread in a Boss Fight Studio Facebook group for people to post their licence ideas. So many of the suggestions are for properties that are deeply loved, but failures at the time. To which the moderators often indelicately and incredulously reply "you want Boss Fight to go chase the licence for something that failed in the first place?!" So, Fresh Monkey deserves a lot of credit for seeing the potential in Eagle Force and breathing new life into what it could be as a modern, expansive line, while respecting and paying tribute to the classic iteration. As an old guy who didn't get stuck in with Eagle Force back in the day, I don't have a horse in how the classics should be represented. I think the gold was the right call. Maybe they will pick up more converts as the figures materialize in people's hands. I've stuck my toes in for a couple and the idea of them is kind of growing on me. |

"More Eagle Force 40th Anniversary card art for the Crimson Moon figures."
There will be separate variant limited edition cards that will be available to purchase when the waves arrive from FMF.

The yellow uniforms of the cart art read as tan or khaki to my four or five year old mind, and it still does, but I can definitely see the appeal of the gold as well. That?s what paint is for!
