I love that new intro, and how it gives Larry some of his overdue praise. Even as an 8 or 9 year old kid, my cousins and I recognized the beauty of those still images. I'm pretty sure that we imagined Destro's voice as he rallied the soldiers up the stairs after seeing the lookout fall past his window. I'll buy it again, and I hope Larry gets some nice royalty checks out of the reprint. It's a hardcover that I'll show with pride on the bookshelves with my hundreds of classic authors.

Yeah me too. I used to use the blue Luke in Jedi training back pack from the Empire mail away accessory set and the Snow Serpent waist chute on Snake Eyes to complete the look.

I definitely enjoyed reading the intro but I sure as heck don't need to buy this again, lol.

Just picked this up. A nice addition is the penciled pages included. Always interesting to see how much the inker had to add himself, or not as in in this case. In art school we used to get photo copies of penciled pages from our instructors to then ink over on vellum pages to practice inking professional pencils. Might be fun to copy these back up to 10 x 15 and see what you, or the kids, can do with the inks.

I always liked the issue, but it was never as important to me as the first issue, or any of the others in the 20's. I even liked the silent issue in Yearbook 3 more than 21.
The most interesting thing to me about that intro is the talk of the filler issues. They state there could be up to four a year set aside in case they needed them. Makes me wonder if we could ever see any other G.I. Joe filler issues from that time. |

Funny, that's exactly how I feel about modern comics and wannabe artists that think they're making movie storyboards instead of comics. Larry Hama knew how to do this. These modern hacks - especially you, Pat Lee - suck at it.

Does anyone know how much this costs? I might pick it up if it doesn't cost too much.

Shit. I didn't know this existed until a few days ago.
The Silent Issue is my absolute favorite, like so many others. I must have about 8 different copies in various forms and reprints, in addition to my original first print, but that one's in lousy condition. This hardcover seems like the best possible reprint though. It is the ONLY reprint to include three very minor color corrections at Larry's request. It includes reproductions of all of Larry's pencils for the issue, never before seen...and it also includes GI Joe Origins 19 with the absolutely gorgeous art of Joe Benitez. I would love to own a copy of this in print...looked it up....goddamn thing is going for like $150 or more!! Fuck!! Well. Guess I'll never be owning this unless the new license holder reprints it. Fat chance. |

BBTS still has it:
*edit. I didn't realize how old this thread was, so it looks like an updated 40th anniversary edition print. https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Produ...Details/203181
