see? yes. buy? no.
Can you imagine what happens when one of those O-rings breaks? The devastation is crazy enough with a 3.75. I would not mind some statues. Since Sideshow has no new Joe product on the immediate horizon, perhaps this is the reason why. Pure speculation but maybe Gentle Giant scooped up the license Sideshow had for statuary.

For those who haven't been following the GG Star Wars line, what impressed me the most about the toy line was that the first figures out in the retro SW line (Aside from the SDCC Fett) were the first figures introduced by Kenner, then the rest of the Episode IV line before the went into Empire. GG strayed from that discipline a little, throwing out Lando as a Celebration exclusive, but except for the Gamoreean Guard and Wicket have now stayed inside the Empire line up. As they get to more obscure figures in the Empire line up I can see them skipping to more popular Jedi characters. At $80 a pop I can see why, as the Cloud Car driver may not sell at that price so why not roll out Ewoks or Jabba's crew out of turn?
My point being that GG seems to have a collector's sense of rolling characters out. If that Facebook post bears any fruit it seems that GG will be sticking with the chronological order of things, for the most part, like they did with Star Wars. So there's a good chance we'll see a proper Short Fuse and Grunt before I see 3 variations of Duke, unlike in the 25th run! I'm very excited to support this line and hope the line sees the '84 line up, '85 and '86 would be great too. I've already canceled some Hot Toys Marvel products pre orders item to save money. Joes come first, always! I'll even grab a couple extras for the nephews.

I've never heard of this company, but why does everyone think these figures will be 12"? Is that all they do? I just don't know.

Saw this quote from Boss Fight Studio on Gentle Giant's Facebook page:
"It's possible something we've been working on for a while will get announced at SDCC. No, I can't tell you what it is yet."

A large scale o-ring fig would be so cool.

With the success of the Retro Jumbo Star Wars figures I guess I could have seen this coming down the line for GI Joe. Imagine if they made the gear for the figures. Back Packs, the wire connections(mainly for Breaker, Tripewire for example). I would love to see the packaging for these. I do agree though I don't think I will pop on these though. Yeah Space is an issue.

GG does many statues like Sideshow but had some success with their repro 12" versions of the old Kenner 3 3/4 Star Wars figures. So the presumption is if they are doing the '82 Joe line that these will likewise be 12" repros of the old 3 3/4 Joes. You can see their Star Wars figures on BBTS or Gentlegiantltd.com Personally I'm not sure the figures are worth the 80 bucks considering the bodies are hollow plastic like an Easter Bunny, only come with one accessory, and the older Sideshow Star Wars figures used to be in that same price range but I'm so hooked on the nostalgia I can't stop buying them. I'm sure many of you will know the feeling. Now that SideShow has upper their prices, and to some extent upped their game, the 80 price tag on these guys doesn't seem as crazy.

You guys know that these figures won't actually have jumbo O-rings inside them, right? You're calling them "O-ring" figures because they are going to be based on the vintage O-ring line, I hope.
Also, they're probably going to be made of PVC instead of ABS; they probably won't be easy to disassemble via a back screw; and they will be hollow in places that the vintage figures were solid. These are supposed to look and play like the vintage figures, but they won't be like the vintage figures in every way. |
