Just an insight, during Botcon 07 we had a 4th july barbecue with the guys from Hasbro, and everyone was discussing how Epps and Lennox could have been easily replaced by Stalker and Hawk, that sort of thing. If that was the talk from the *start*, I'm pretty sure they have officially yet internally brought it up at some point after 7 years and 5 movies. YMMV.

Honestly, I could care less of TF and GI Joe merge in the same film. It matters not at all to me.

DiBoneventure may not have any idea how to make a good Joe movie, but he is at least smart enough to know that there is zero synergy between these two entirely different brands.
You could cross-over Mickey Mouse with G.I. Joe, doesn't mean it would make sense to the audience. Rather than insult anyone by saying how stupid an idea a cross over movie would be because he simply deflected the reason to the issue of scheduling rather than having to explain why it would make no sense to have these two entirely different concepts team up in a movie. The two product lines are linked together because of when they were released and Hasbro's identical marketing strategy for both, but the two brands have zero to do with each other. |

. NEST isn't G.I. Joe. The Expendables isn't G.I. Joe.
That's exactly the kind of half-assery we'd get with a crossover though...Joe would undoubtedly be on the losing end of the "which franchise gets shafted in favor of the other" question...big time. Let G.I. Joe be G.I. Joe. Not bit players for a stronger franchise. I totally agree with you that Expendables is not GIJOE. Not in the slightest. Expendables is way too violent, and is just playing on a novel idea of bringing back all the action hero stars and lumping them in one film where most will barely get any screen time. After seeing the movie today, the military aspects of Transformers were what kept me interested. The autobots and decepticons are treated like props and not like characters, those darn humans get all the screen time. So get rid of the civilians for the crossover. I would be good with that. Joes and TF do have a history and it would be great to see the two finally in a story that was half way decent. Story first, characters second.

If you want G.I. Joe to be half-assed just so they can show their faces in a higher-grossing movie, then I guess that's a valid opinion, but a crossover film is not at this point going to do G.I. Joe justice by any stretch of the imagination, and furthermore is not likely to generate toy sales because the Joes would be taking a distant backseat to the giant transforming robots. So basically, it'd be pointless when it comes to the health of the Joe brand. |

A Joe/Transformers cross over may blow minds, the way that Michael Bay does at every turn. NEST dissolves becomes Gi Joe and then throw in the joe code names and cobra forces and pepper in all the awesome military hardware Bay can get his hands on since he has the military connections....I can't see what the issue is here....huge transforming robots and the best of the best soldiers to fight the re-activated and reprogrammed deceptions that are under control of the cobra forces.... for now (all hail Megatron's rebirth!)...

At this point, nothing is pointless, why inhibit something that may turn out great? It hasn't even been tried yet, so who knows, be better then what they have already wasted a few millions on already for live action Joe movie failures we have gotten so far. If the GI JOE execs had felt it was pointless to try new things... the drive to go from 12 inch to 3 3.4 inch would have never happened because it would have been pointless, which luckily pointless was not part of the discussion.

OK, I'll grant, it might be mind-blowing...in terms of just how horrible it turns out and just how much bitching it starts in the fandom when Michael Bay gleefully gives the audience "G.I. Joe in name only." |
