Even though I've been hypercritical at IDW's Joe comics I should say that it seems standard of them to relaunch every comic brand they do every year or 2. If you look at all of their comics nothing has more than 20 issues. Plus...this really again isn't technically a reboot...it's just a relaunch. So in theory everything they did prior still happened...(including continuity errors like Helix being in two places at once).
My only concern with this is that it sounds striking similar to Renegades and it is apparently taking place 6 after all that's happened and I feel like time jumps are lazy writing concepts. On the other hand...this is a quick way to get rid of things like poor character designs, the mainframe/scarlett relationship, hashtag, billdocker, etc. I'm just hoping for the characters to LOOK like the characters. They can do reinventions and updates and still make them look GI Joe. I always feel like SE, SS, CC, Baroness, and Serpentor are the only ones who look like they are supposed to. Well...and Helix.

Did IDW cancel the other Joe books? If so then I guess the Joe franchise is dead.

To give them a fair chance, I purchased a year's sub from my lcb of IDW's reboot of GI Joe, Special Missions and Cobra Files: that was my mistake. I liked the Cobra Files story the most but, the publisher cancelled it before the year was over. For the main title reboot, the art was acceptable and some parts of the back stories held interest for me but, it overall it was going nowhere. I hated how badly faces were drawn in Special Missions: some call it 'stylish' but, I called it fugly.
I may purchase the first few issues of the newest reboot just to give the writer a a fair opportunity but, it's- highly unlikely. |

Comics are just done this way now. They relaunch with new #1's constantly. It's the nature of the market not the GI Joe comic. I seriously doubt Traviss stays for more than 5-6 issues.
