Below is the interview of Mr. Kit Lau, Acid Rain World Creator & Designer. The interview was held by our very own haradrel. We hope you enjoy!
---------- I would like to thank you for the opportunity for this interview. I've been wanting to do this since the group started in an effort to stem the tides of questions that you receive just about every day, and also to add a F.A.Q. section for people to check out. It's awesome that you take the time to go and answer random questions from time to time, thank you so much for that, as fans it's brilliant to get the information straight from the source! But, you must have a lot on your plate, so lets get to it! How do you like the fans and fandom in general so far? I am very grateful to people who support me and the Acid Rain World. You know, our toys are new to the market and we are not people who are famous. I am sure people who loves Acid Rain are people who truly like the different qualities of the toys. It is the support of these people keep me going. How has the reaction to the line been? I personally think the reaction is quite good, many people show interest to the line and they want to know more what will happen next. How successful is it? Successful…I think this word is still far away, I would say it’s quite okay, from a viewpoint as a big fan of transforming and military toys, as a person who is quite new to toys design and production. Alright lets get some background information on you as a person; Who is Kit Lau? Kit Lau has been a chief illustrator in a local magazine, Art Director and Creative Director of an animation studio. He participated the post-production of “Father of the Pride”, the 3D TV drama at NBC Channel. As the Director and Art Director of “My Mom is an Alien”, the short animation movie, Kit received the following awards: The 2nd Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival - Best Story, Best Drama and Best Animation and Japan TBS“DigiCon 6 Award. Now Kit Lau focuses on the design of pop up books and Acid Rain Toys. Any real world military experience? I live in Hong Kong where being a military officer is very remote. But I like science fiction, watching documentaries about armies and warfare on National Geographic Channel. And I watch news and listen to commentaries often to learn about politics – a fight between people to get more resources and power, just like what happen in the Acid Rain World. You are basically a one man production team - You design the vehicles and figures, decide the paintjobs and you paint the art on the packaging and cut and fit the packaging yourself before production starts - How many people are involved? Because that sounds like a massive undertaking! I am the only person in the design "team"! Yes, it’s a massive undertaking and I sleep a lot less. But as all of you know, bringing a design all the way to a real product is more than that, it involves many parties and Oritoy who is responsible for production plays a big role in it. What was the inspiration for Acid Rain? (Stalker, M.A.S.K. and 3A WWRp Has been mentioned.) I was born in the 70s and am a big fan of many lines, from Gundam, Macross, Star Wars, Transformers, to ThreeA. I think all these lines play a part in my creation of the Acid Rain World - the story and the products. Do you have any ideas or plans for more diorama sets after "the taste of coffee"? I have plans for 4 diorama sets. We get water vehicles and figures, do we get Air based vehicles? Jet-packs? We've seen the airborne laurels, so we know there is an air force somewhere. There will be an air force and hopefully they can interact with the existing toys. What's next to be released? The Chapel and Speeder MK I ? Or is this perhaps dependent on what finishes the prototype sections first (first model, paint stage, packaging and artwork and so on)? Speeder MK1 is now on the testing stage of production and will be released soon. The Chapel has some technical issues on the production that have to be resolved, once it is resolved, it will be released to the market. I am guessing with the tease of The Bucks - Special unit, we will hear more about them or possibly get the info in the package? The Blog will have more details about the special unit. Stay tuned. How long does it take from start to finish to produce a figure or vehicle on average? It depends on the complexity of the product, the availability of the factory, etc. It can take a few months to 1 year. People are discussing arctic vehicles (specifically the Raptor Speeder MK1), are there plans for this as well as Jungle themed vehicles(You mentioned earlier that you were trying to paint jungle camouflage)? I don't have any plan for Jungle Raptor yet. But after I finished the Jungle paint testing, I will start to think about it. And it will not only be repainted but the design will be adjusted to fit into the environment. Who are the bad guys? Who are the sides fighting the wars? Most of the characters will be in the grey area, just like the real world. It really depends on different perspectives. From the viewpoint of Argurts, the state which Bob is serving, the nearby states which are aggressive can be regarded as hostile. Will we ever get to see a map of the Acid Rain world? Major locations? The map has been uploaded. The link is acid rain: The outside world Any tips to people who are interested in buying in bulk, or do you not handle that part of the business? For sales and marketing, have to check with Oritoy. Thank you so much for the interview and answering all these questions Kit. On behalf of all the fans we're eagerly looking forward to what comes next! |

He sure sounds like a pretty cool guy. I can't wait for my BBTS preorders to come. Heres hoping the Acid Rain line is a complete success for him.
