Will there only be vehicle drivers, or will there be single carded figures?

There will be single figures as well - I don't think we've seen how they will be packaged yet.

My greatest fear with these figures is that the plastic will be Jazwares quality. Meaning that rubbery rotten plastic that can and will snap, and holds paint details horribly.
The only painted pictures of the figures makes them look like it's that type of plastic, I really hope I am wrong though. |

Hey! I was able to get a Q+A with Ben from Toy Notch and he was kind enough to take the time and talk about the company as well as the new Hardballer mecha that is getting released later this year...
HT: Who is Toy Notch and what kind of projects have the founders worked on in the past? TN: We are a new company. We have done some OEM for other brands before, but most of them are very niche items and also of low volume. HT: The Lost Planet franchise is your companies first release, what reasons did you have for choosing that IP? TN: Many years ago, our developer bought the LP art book which was only released in Japan, and then he was very impressed by the designs of the game. Although some of the mechs had only one or two scenes in the video game, they are very awesome designs. HT: Was there a reason you settled on 1:18th scale for the line? TN: 1:18th was a very tough decision. As people found GI Joe and Microman were going down in these years, most likely for the increased production cost in China, even big companies find it hard to maintain the price point of 10.00. As a new company, we wouldn’t be able to produce a volume big enough to bring down the metal mold cost, our 4” would be very expensive compared to others. But, 1:18th is the best scale if we want to take care of both the human characters and mech very well. After many considerations, we end up going for 1:18th, and Capcom kindly supported us. HT: The Hardballer is a pretty impressive piece, how large will the final be? TN: 10 inches. Hardballer indeed will impress. We have cool gimmicks that are not shown yet. We hope it can wow you when we reveal it. HT: What kind of articulation are we looking at and will the joints be able hold a pose? TN: Humans – they are standard GI Joe level articulated. Mechs – can do what they do in the game. HT: What kind of materials are going into the production of the Hardballer, are we looking at hard ABS plastics or something else? TN: Hardballer is ABS/POM. HT: Did you run into any design problems with making something of this size? TN: Hardballer went through 3 versions of prototyping. The difficulty is to keep the cost low while keeping the 1:18th scale, but it doesn’t we compromise on its details and playability. HT: What kind of packaging is being proposed for this, will there be anything like exclusive artwork or display windows for the mint collector? TN: We are working on the package art right now. Package will be windowed box. HT: Are there any paint/environment or weapons variants we should look out for? TN: We might go for other versions in the future. Not sure of it at the moment. HT: The first time I visited your site I noticed there was a sneak of a picture in one of the banners for the "Yuri," does this mean there are more mecha on the way? TN: See attached image. L-P-9999 Yuri is cool, it is a hidden form of PTX-40A from Lost Planet 1. We have had the prototype done 2 years ago. We are looking forward to releasing this big boy if the line is received well. HT: I hear the initial release for the overall line is going to be small-ish in production numbers, but if the reception for the product is warm do you plan to keep producing as long as there is a demand? TN: Yes, we love Lost Planet, also we have support from Capcom. HT: Have there been any points of detail or construction on the Hardballer that struck you as being particularly outstanding? Something that the pictures just don't do enough justice to? TN: Like I said above, there are hidden gimmicks on Hardballer, Stay tuned! HT: Will a pilot figure be included? TN: Due to cost, the pilot figure has to be purchased separately. HT: What kind of retail price will we be expecting to see? TN: Hardballer is going to be expensive if you compare to GI Joe vehicles. We would say there would be priced like Three A or Acid Rain. HT: Finally, any hints as to other future projects Toy Notch is preparing for? TN: We might look to release some originally designed mechs in the future. Also, we are in talks with several licensors on future product lines. But for now, our priority is Lost Planet. Can’t wait to bring them to the collectors.
