I love these 4 brands (GI Joe, MTF, CFT, BFS)!!!
Here is an example of a figure made up of parts from all 4 lines: Caine from Kung Fu:

^Great looking figure 46! That build is very cool!

Because Hasbro has decided to put the 1:18 scale Modern Era action figures on hiatus again, it's Marauder Task Force action figures to the rescue (again).
All design credit and a special thanks goes to HissTank member Steel Brigade, whose "Boomtown" Marauder Task Force creation motivated me to attempt to copy his genius recipe, so that I might add this 1989 character to my collection. The original vintage Mortar Man action figure, Codename: Downtown, notably lacked any mortar accessory, coming instead with a recoilless rifle. Well, no longer. The recent 2021 G.I. Joe Retro Walmart exclusive Cobra Officer (v.14) comes with a Soviet M-37 mortar, which was designed to fire 82mm shells, but can also fire captured American 81mm ammo, so it will work fine for any of my G.I. Joe action figures. ^WOW! XD I love it when I can inspire others! Thanks for the shout out on my Downtown/Boomtown build! Yours came out really terrific! I loved that you used my build idea & my mortar choice & amped him up with some spectacular accurate paint flourishes! Bravo! Love it! I was late to the party but It's VERY COOL for me to see this! Thanks for posting! |

To acknowledge that Downtown can operate all sizes of mortars, but also to more closely mimic the vintage 1989 action figure's appearance. Quote:

Thanks for posting! I never had downtown as a kid, and don't remember seeing them appear meaningfully in any media, so I don't have any attachment to Downtown specifically being male. But I hadn't really considered reinterpreting them until seeing your brilliant MTF builds and realizing I could build a pretty spot-on no-paint Downtown with a Valkyrie buck and the red leg armor. Next thing I know I'm sifting through my bins and ordering parts, then "Thomas P. Riley" becomes "Riley P. Thomas" and bam, done.

G.I. Joe: America's Elite issue 31 by Devil's Due in January 2008 had Downtown teamed up with Alpine and Freefall, having them pinned down under fire in a tower at the historic highland village of Shatili, Georgia, near the border with Chechnya. Chuck Dixon wrote Downtown into G.I. Joe issue 18 by IDW in May 2010, when Stalker sent him out on a desert training mission above The Pit with Tripwire and Cover Girl.

As far as I know, Downtown was a character with very limited comic book appearances, and those were all many years after the toy became a distant memory for most people. Off the top of my head, I can think of these two most recent examples:

But I do take inspiration from particularly good story arcs or ideas I encounter from elsewhere in the joesphere.

So far I saw a John Wick figure, a Rambo figure. Any chance there's a Bruce Lee figure? Is there anything currently going on I should pay attention to? |
