That's a killer Downtown recreation. One of my favorite figures of that era when I was a kid.
Question. When you say the original didn't come with a mortar accessory, are you saying the launcher thing he came with doesn't classify as a mortar? As a kid, I wouldn't have known the difference (not sure I do now), but I would have called his launcher and detachable missile thingies mortar-like enough for the line.

The answer to your question: Yes, I'm saying that the launcher thing that the vintage 1989 Downtown figure came with is not even a Mortar, and that's why it doesn't have a base plate of any kind, or launch explosive shells in a high-arcing ballistic trajectory, (even though the card art attempts to convince us that it can). I wish that I understood why that figure lacked a mortar, but I really don't know the story on the creation of that action figure. My best guess is that a Hasbro sculptor created a recoilless rifle accessory, and a backpack to carry several recoilless cartridges for it. Then Hasbro commissioned the card art for it, and the painter didn't know what the toy was, mistaking it for some sort of futuristic mortar device, and painted it as such. Hasbro then made a decision that most children would never know what it is anyways, so they had the copywriter change the description to Mortar Man. It seems to me that Larry Hama might have just avoided using the character altogether, probably for this very reason.

Thanks. It's an action figure I've long wanted the Collector's Club to create and sell, but it just never happened. I really had no idea how to make one myself, until another forum member (Steel Brigade) figured out a solution which I considered to be an ideal build.

My first time looking at these and I'm impressed. What are the figures made of? I see a body I want but it's headless.

https://www.marauderinc.com/ These are fully customizable figures with some Pre-Built figures as well. You basically purchase the parts (body, head, accessories) you want to make your figure. They also have WWII figures as well. In 17 months, they will be releasing Vietnam war figures. I don't know what they are made of (PVC, ABS?), but they have the same quality as the POC Joes. Have fun making your figures!!!

You can also buy alternate forearms, hands, feet, and legs. Swapping any of those parts requires "boil and pop" disassembly. To do that, I take a small glass measuring cup of water, microwave it until boiling, then dunk the parts I need to disassemble for about 15 seconds to soften them up. The torso separates from the waist without boil/pop, just tug them apart. You can essentially just change their pants that way. I will note that not all pants are swappable. For whatever reason, MTF slightly changed the waist peg's ball size between the original "trooper" body and the contract/agency ops and WWII bodies. It can be more difficult to swap pants between those categories. Changing upper arms is the only thing you can't do at all unless you are comfortable with "cracking" a torso open. You'll need to glue it shut again afterward and the torso can be damaged during the cracking process if you do it wrong (just like with ME Joes).

Thanks for the info.
Any chance they have enough ingredients to make a V1 Gung Ho? I couldn't find a shirtless torso or mustache bald guy or hair on top guy. Or a Metal Gear Solid Snake? |

You can use a torso from BFS blank, and use an adapter from Zap to put it on a pair of MTF legs.
BFS site: https://www.bossfightshop.com/collec...=5854915067939 Zap can tell you which adapter you need.

I forgot. MTF will have a shirtless torso in May of 2023 when the Vietnam figures come out. You can purchase a mustached head figure from Chicken Fried Toys (CFT) and shave off the hair if you want.
