what do folks expact them to say/do. probably no physical 50th product or packaging to show yet. no plans for any movie stuff yet since movie is still in design phase, if that far along. no plans for post movie lines. there's nothing for Hasbro to say and have for the convention. that's why not going. it costs Hasbro 3000.00+, and probably much more, to send people to the convention, and it's probably not in the budget. disappointing? of course it is. should they be there? probably. is it the end of the world? no. and it's not an "official hasbro" event, it's a fun publications event for the official g.i. joe fan club, which as we all know is not a Hasbro controled/run organization.

Hasbro, you're full of shit!
Seriously, this is the 50'th year of joe, at least give you're predecessors some real respect. I really hope what that new Yorker article said about Hasbro is true, and they'll sell of their brands in ten years. |

I was wondering what the actual buy out would be. I know it would be a lot even though there is so little effort put into the brand. If they keep running it into the ground they might actually consider selling it. I think they would have to actually lose money on the next movie for it to even be considered. Even then, I don't know if they would let it go.

Can't say it's really shocking news. What are they going to do show up put nothing in the display cases and have a panel where they sit there silently the whole time because there isn't anything to say other than thanks folks for sticking with the brand, hope we have something to talk about when production ramps up for the 3rd film.
Maybe it's just me but these kind of cons just don't seem like a big deal to Hasbro any more. Even with a healthy brand like Transformers there isn't anything big to report because Hasbro holds all the big reveals and news for Comic Con. As to selling off, well they sat on the GI Joe brand before so why not sit on it again? Plus who would buy it because Lego wouldn't be comfortable with the brand, Mattel can't even manage to get He-Man into stores, and smaller companies would struggle to get out such a large cast of heroes and villains. Doesn't seem like Microsoft or Sony would buy it to make video games when they already have shooter titles. |

Okay, so maybe they don't have anything new to show, but shit… they haven't had much of anything "new" to show at SDCC for the past 2 years or at JoeCon last year, aside from maybe a few bits sprinkled in. But most of what we've seen is just the same shit over and over for 3 conventions now.
But at least they showed up, and had a display. Not showing up at fucking JOECON? With anything? Not even an intern? They couldn't articulate "We don't give a fuck!" anymore clearly than that. What's the Club going to even show to fill up the panel, 12 different paint schemes for 25th Flash for FSS 3.0? Sigh. |

Hasbro is actually the one that is missing out here by not showing up. They have the chance every year to do a 48 hour research and focus group session, and people pay (the club) for the opportunity to come see them.
I will miss the dios, the showcases, and the chance to impart ideas to them.
