Joe is a perfect brand to expand into novels. Star Wars exploded with the Expanded Universe.
This could be good for Joe in the long run, but probably not going to do much short term.

This can be nothing but good news for the franchise, and I'm sitting on years of unpublished content that I've simply never shared. I've always written the Joe stuff that I wanted to see in print.
I'm not up to speed on licensing for other properties, but I also wonder if this will become a trend that other toy companies will now jump on as well (imagine MOTU, TMNT, Tcats, Voltron, etc.). |

Please don't compare this to Star Wars novels.... Unless some of you are writers for a profession, this isn't going to have any impact on the brand. I agree Joe is great for novels, but real novels by real writers. Fan Fic won't be a blip on the radar.

Agreed. The worst case scenario is we get another Brandon Jerwa from this. |

I just found read about the news yesterday, and I'm thrilled about it. I'm gearing up to release my first two novels and a novella in the next few months, and can't wait to dip my toes into the Joeverse.
That said, this is still fan-fiction after all, so my expectations on it are realistic. I don't imagine I'll make much money off of whatever I write for this, but I'm still excited to do it for love of G.I. Joe, and that I might get a new reader or two for my original series. |

Is it bad that I really hope someone will flesh out the Nano-Mite Wars?
Also, I'm not sure if it would count because it has been around a bit now, but it would be cool to have The Price of Peace on there. I'd like others to get a chance to see how cool this book is and who knows it might inspire General Hawk to write another one.

Thanks, guys.
Yeah, I'm certainly hoping to get The Price of Peace on there, but it'll depend on the Amazon/Hasbro terms and conditions and what they require for it to be published... if they're truly looking to build a huge playground for other writers to leverage, I imagine there might be some stringent requirements on characters, stories, etc... |

I think Price of Peace what was I read that dissuaded me from writing my G.I. Joe book (I had also planned an assault on Cobra Island)!!!
I was really excited about this but find myself less so with the idea of stringent requirements on characters, stories. It would make sense that they'd want to present a unified concept (something the brand has lacked really since its inception), but I am afraid my concept of G.I. Joe might differ from whomever might be overseeing the editing. I'll keep putting together my ideas and see what happens. |
