I like it.
But I agree with the Code name thing, it gets kinda irritating. That aside, I think Dixon is doing a pretty good job so far.

I bought this yesterday and enjoyed it.
Too short, but very good.

From 1982 until yesterday. And out of all of them IDW is failing on everyfront, Using Roadblock and calling him Heavy Duty, Spelling Chuck Dixons Name wrong on the inside cover of issue zero, Rapeing the origins and rewriting an already established history into the ground. I want this comic to fail so we can get back to the Marvel contniuty that devils due so loyally followed and added due. Snake Eyes Declassified Anyone?

Trade Paperbacks used to be reserved for the big storylines, or the big crossovers, etc.. It used to mean something about the storyline if it made it to TP format. Nowadays, everything gets made into a TP the month after it comes out. So when G.I. Joe #5 or 6 is hitting shelves, expect the solitictaion for the first Joe TP. And this is the fault of the fans. We're the ones that made the industry move this way. The companies found it was lucrative to sell all the stories in TP form, that there was a large market for it. When Joe was announced, there were people here that said "I'll wait for the trade paperback". It's just the nature of the business now. I can't think of a single series that isn't written towards the TP format (being able to break up the series into "volumes").

It makes no sense whatsoever to continue the continuity, these guys would be pushing 50 by now. Now some of the stuff you can't blame IDW for. The Heavy Duty thing was Hasbro. Making Dial-Tone female, Hasbro. How did they rape the origins? They didn't use anythign existing. It's kind of hard to "rape" somethign that is brand new.

I was hesitant to buy this series at first, but now i'm sold, i'll admit it doesn't have that somber tone and mistery of the Cobra miniseries and the Origins title, but it is much better than what was done on DDP, and i followed that series from the beggining to the end.
As much as i would like a really fast paced story, the slow build actually feels ok, if i'm left wanting for more every month, can't say it's bad. Plus, seeing some of my favorite joes (Bazooka in a real uniform, Flint, Tunnel Rat) it's a plus. |

DDP killed it. SE Declassified was horrible. Making CC and SE "rebels" together until CC went to far? God, that would fit in with a daytime soap opera.

Thats just it these characters are timeless as is batman spiderman the xmen. How old would Bruce wayne be now ? Like a hundred. lol. But know if you were a true fan of the marvel series you saw the greatness of snakeeyes declasified. Even Gijoe declassified was a service to us vetrans of the Gijoe Books. Shooter lol. I loved devils Due origin works. there red shadows and wwIII Storylines were pretty slick too. I guess you would have to be a vet of the series to really appreciate what ddp did . and obviously to not appreiciate what idw is doing. Maybe Im just not on the trendy train. The only book i read and have ever read has been GIjoe So maybe Im sheltered and biased but i dont have any other series to go off of. Only Gijoe. So i would think i would be pretty knowledgable at least in that regard. |

I have read the Joe books since the 1st issue of the Marvel run. The DDP run was OK, but did have some bumps.
The whole point of IDW's run is that is a complete restart. We cannot expect an exact copy of what the Marvel run was. I appreciate that they are using new takes on things, but still giving nods to fans of the Marvel run. I would hardly call it a "rape" at all, lol. Not all changes are Dixons fault. It's 4 issues. I usually give a run at least a year before I make a definative decison on it.

As a true fan, SE Declassified ruined it all. Made too many more connections where there too many to begin with. Horrible writing and horrible idea. Red Shadows was horrible. WW3 was a saving grace, wasn't a bad storyline at all. Knowledge and opinion are 2 different things, you haven't shown any knowledge (not saying you're not), just opinion. Hama's Declassified was very good. Shooter was a great character. And the Joes aren't as timeless as Super Hero comics. They have aged in the pages, not changed, aged. There is some suspension of belief that goes into reading comics, but the Joes have aged themselves. It makes no sense to continue the marvel/ddp storylines. Makes a ton of sense to start fresh. Joe is a concept that can start fresh and still be essentially the same.

That would be like me saying "True Joe Fans only see the Marvel comic run as canon" or something, which is just not true. That's the joy of Joe, there's a couple different versions we get to enjoy.
