Why should Hasbro give fans a roadmap?
I might take this question a different way.....why wouldn't they give fans a roadmap? The upside is you may maintain interest in your product and keep customers informed, if not happy. The downside, is well, not much. Bear in mind, some collectors just collect Joes, while others collect SW, Transformers, He-Man, My Little Pony, etc. For people who just collect Joes, me, I'm not likely to become a He-Man fan, though some of the TF does look good. However, for the fans that collect both, if Joe is viewed as dead, they will move on to something else and you may or may not get them back. So that is the upside of the roadmap....share of mind and retention. Now, I tend to agree with you, Hasbro probably does not know what to do with it. Okay, that is fine, but you can convey that to fans in a constructive way. Right now, it is crickets and if Hasbro does not manage the message, other people will and that is less than ideal. So folks may walk away in frustration and move to SW, Marvel, something else. I also think part of the failure of the line is due to Hasbro's ineptness. So, the product may be strong, but execution is weak. PoC really did not have any tie ins. The 30th line was half - ast. The cartoon was stopped b/c of the movie, which was then pushed out. The cartoon figures came out after the show had been cancelled. There was no movie figures on shelves when the movie was out. Etc, etc. Kirk Bozigan is more right than wrong on this. There needs to be a cohesive strategy and we just have not seen it. It seems like Playmates toys and Nickelodeon have done something awesome, still waiting to see how the 2014 movie will hold up. The TMNT line is stronger than ever right now because they stopped for a while and made a plan that would keep the franchise a success. It seems like Joes should do something similar. That way our brand that we have invested in can finally stop limping along and finally become an importance. Without a plan of attack Hasbro has got nothing but expensive exclusives being sold at cons and club only events and I am sure most of us would like to stop paying for those overpriced figures and complaining that we cannot get them for good reasons, too expensive or non-existence.
