Bummer. Did he work on any non-Joe comic series?

Thanks for the link. Always been a fan of Michael Golden's art. Yearbook #2 is easily on my favorite Joe comics.

Michael Golden's GI Joe (covers, pinups, interiors) is one of those touchstones in a person's life where you remember where you were when you first discovered it. For me it was seeing his GI Joe Annual at a spinner rack at the local 7-11. It was totally love at first sight. I even managed to convince my dad to give me the nearly 3 bucks (an enormous amount for a comic book at that time) to buy it, which was no small feat. Discovering his version of Joe is the single most important moment of my young Joe collecting life- other than collecting the figures themselves of course. I vividly recall pouring over his art and feeling an even stronger connection to the characters. One of my favorites being his comic cover where Storm Shadow is kicking Snake Eyes out of a moving subway car. Very iconic.
I'm not sure if he considers himself a fan of GI Joe or just did the work to put food on the table, but he has a real knack for it and I wish he'd come back to the comics in some capacity. He's sorely missed. |

I met him at C2E2. Got his autograph and bought a couple of his prints. There is an outside shot we may get him on the podcast in the future. Nice guy!

Always loved his stuff and I asked for an autograph on some things and he flat out refused "to sign anything that wasn't purchased from his table".
Have to admit that I was not expecting that reaction and I have to admit that gave me a really sour impression of the man. I was going to purchase a print of his, but after that I bought from Ron Wagner. I realize that this is probably a lone story but I wanted to share, just like all the good stories of him. I am not trying to flame him in any way. But on a side note, Ron Wagner had some really good stories he shared with me at 2 different events I saw him at. I would love to hear him on WOJM. |
