Variety reports another actor has been confirmed for the 2009 live action G.I-Joe film. Marlon Wayans has signed on to star in Paramount's G.I. Joe movie. Wayans will play Ripcord, leader of the military unit.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also rumored to be close to signing on to the film which is set ten years in the future. The film is due to begin shooting next month with Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Adewale Akinnuote-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui and Ray Parks all already signed for the movie. Hasbro or Paramount have Not Officially Confirmed Marlon Wayans Role in the Live Action G.I. Joe Movie 2009 Thanks to HissTank boards member Recondo for the heads up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the figure of Ripcord white with red hair?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Joe leaders were Hawk, General Flagg, Duke, and sometimes Flint (in the cartoons). When did Ripcord get a promotion?
And color's not a big deal. Heck, I wouldn't mind him playing Duke or Hawk. There's nothing that says he has to be the same race/ethnicity as an action figure. I'm just thinking of rank.

I'm really not upset by this. First, Marlon Wayans isn't really a terrible actor; he did a fine job in "Requiem for a Dream" and, saddled with awful material, did better than any of the other actors in "Dungeons and Dragons."
And if Ripcord is getting a promotion...so what? A film is a new continuity. Perhaps the worst thing a film based on a comic or cartoon or toy property can do is to try and mimic it too closely on screen. Let's see what they can do and, above all, reserve judgement till there is actually a film to watch.

I have no problem with the casting. I really like Marlon Wayons and think he'd do a great job whether this were a dramtic, or comedic role. I'm just trying to figure out the character choice. Were they thinking Duke, but turned the NAME to Ripcord? Is that a reporting mistake, or real? If they did change the codename, why? Was the change because the films creators worried about fan reaction to turning a best known character into a different race (again, if this were the case, Hasbro is understimating the fans).

Wayans has impeccable acting chops and will likely carry the film on his talent and charisma. Did anyone see 'Little Man'? Nuff said.
