I would go see a standard Digital screening and if you enjoy the film go back and watch it with a fellow fan in 3D.

They killed Channing Tatum who was playing a solider nicknamed Duke, not the true GI Joe Duke. For the movieverse he may be Duke but to real GI Joe fans he never was Duke.
Back in the RoC movie stuff I made this point too. GI Joe Duke First Sergeant (E-8) hard nose field NCOIC (non commissioned officer in charge). Grizzled battle veteran. Movie Duke Captain (O-3) (First a Major [O-4] who somehow got demoted) took orders from a Corporal (E-4) in RoC and became GI Joe commander some how between RoC and Retaliation. Made bone headed command choices (Early air strike that led to Rex Lewis becoming CC, Ordering his Nato team to get slaughtered basicly vs the Mars Gunship) in RoC. So to me he never was Duke, but getting a real Duke into the GI Joe movies is not possible now so its a done deal. Maybe just maybe we can some how get DJ Contra to up his acting game and become a real Flint and take over lead of GI Joe for 3 and beyond.

Were there any cool cameos? I hear mention of a possible Major Bludd sighting, and we saw Clutch in the calendar but he only seems to be mentioned in the final movie from what I've heard...

Yes. Major Bludd, Clutch and Zandar and there could be more but you can't pause a movie. At the start when they show who is locked up in the prison, a bunch of extra profiles are shown.

This was a good review. The thing about all the ninja stuff that I really liked was that it seemed like it was lifted from the Marvel run. Even the lines of the Blind Master seemed like it could have easily been framed in comic panels without changing anything.
The creative team had a lot to juggle with this film in addition to making it a success. I think it was done well. I would say it is a must see if you are a fan of GI Joe or action movies but I won't begrudge anyone who doesn't like it. I know I detested ROC but I really liked the Transformers movies.

I honestly thought ROC was a better film.
Loop Holes everywhere. How could Zartan Kill the hard master like 25 years ago and look exactly the same as he is now? How obvious is it that the actors wanted nothing to do with the movie? Channing potatum dies, Destro stays locked up, basically all the other joes from ROC seem to have disappeared. Though that it was literally bland as a film. Sigh |

So, to answer your question it never could've happened the same way with Chu, because Sommers put his mark on it from the get-go. Despite this though (and remember I haven't even seen the movie, only the 70 minutes of clips that have already been revealed) I feel confident in saying that if Chu put any of his own stamp on RoC it would've only been to attempt to bring in more source material and less Hollywood.

Did anyone else notice that Duke's body armor changed from before the attack to where his dog tags are removed? I had thought I noticed that in the film so I just reviewed the trailer 1 and trailer 3 since they have the before an after shots and it looks like the armor is altogether missing after the attack on the GI Joe camp. 58 seconds or so into Trailer 1 and then 21 seconds or so into trailer 3.

Did he write the script no, he may have put that in the movie cause he had it planned before but I am not referring to scenes im talking bout the script on a whole that was written by Stuart Beattie. And lets say that the suits stayed in script minus Sommers would it have made the Paris chase better through his eyes? maybe or maybe not.
The reason I brought this up is because he loved Rise of Cobra because it was the G.I. Joe that wasn't made for him but for the General audience an I give him props for acknowledging ROC for giving him the sandbox to expand and create Retaliation, just sad that he didnt use the rest of the main cast from the first movie to improved their character development. |
