not sure if this was posted already .. i did a search but nothing came up "We've known for a year now that EA has had the rights to toy favorites G.I. Joe, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that they'll be rolling out their take on the license alongside this summer's tent pole film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. EA's not talking gameplay at this point but we know (1) you'll get control of 12 different Joes (2) single-screen co-op and (3) it's basically coming to every platform. The game's story will apparently pick up at the end of the movie's (it's going to have a story?) and allow you to "re-create and re-live the greatest moments from the film, cartoon series and action figure toy line". From that last bit, we can only assume there's going to be a level where the Joes dry hump giant Barbie dolls and get their faces melted after lying under skyscraper-sized radiators." EA to launch G.I. Joe game alongside movie - Joystiq

Unfortunately, EA reported they are in serious moneycrisis and are having a meeting later this month about the future of the company.
Titles like Sims 3 and Godfather 2 have been delayed at least until June. |

It's hard to believe they are losing money since they basically have been stealing money from consumers with their uninspiring upgrades to their biggest money makers like Madden along with other titles.

1. It's EA
2. It's based on a movie license. 3. It's EA making a movie licensed game. That's a recipe for disaster. I had high high hopes for a long time to play a video game version of GIJoe. Unfortunately, movie basedgames almost always suck because the developer is always rushed to get thegame completed by the time the movie releases, and the company in this case EA gas to shell out so much money for likenesses, branding, etc. The budget to actually build the game is small. Now having said that I would love to see this game kick ass, but history tells me it'll suck some serious nuggets. |

Here is the complete press release that I received from EA today (btw, I was surprised that the logo we received for it was a Falcon logo):
EA CONFIRMS DEVELOPMENT OF ACTION-PACKED G.I. JOE® VIDEO GAME INSPIRED BY UPCOMING FILM FROM PARAMOUNT PICTURES, SPYGLASS ENTERTAINMENT AND HASBRO G.I. JOE Set to Invade All Major Video Game Platforms in Summer 2009 Guildford, UK 11th February 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that development is underway to bring Hasbro’s legendary G.I. JOE® brand to all major console and handheld gaming platforms in summer 2009 to coincide with the theatrical release of the G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA live-action movie from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro, which opens in theaters 7th August 2009. EA will unveil a “first look” of the G.I. JOE® video game at Hasbro’s Showroom at Toy Fair on 15th -17th February, 2009 in New York City. “As Hasbro and Paramount Pictures reignite the G.I. JOE® property this year with an all-new toy line and film, EA is excited to play a major role in bringing this icon of pop culture history to a new generation of enthusiasts through interactive gaming,” said Chip Lange, General Manager and Vice President of EA Hasbro. “G.I. JOE® offers exceptionally rich storylines and a cast of characters that lends itself incredibly well to creating an over-the-top action adventure video game that will thrill gamers as well as G.I. JOE® fans.” For fans of all ages, 2009 is gearing up to become another watershed milestone in the timeless franchise by introducing even more new ways to engage, immerse and play within the G.I. JOE® universe. The G.I. JOE® video game will feature an exclusive storyline that picks up where the live-action movie leaves off, allowing players to re-create and re-live the greatest moments from the film, cartoon series and action figure toy line. The game will feature 12 G.I. JOE® characters, each with unique abilities and weapons. Adding to the adrenaline rush will be an intense single-screen co-op mode allowing two players to easily unite as a team in a classic struggle between good and evil as they work together to defeat the powers of the COBRA organization. The G.I. JOE® video game is under development for Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Wii™, PlayStation®2, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), Nintendo DS™, and mobile devices. “G.I. JOE® has been an icon of action for 45 years,” said Mark Blecher, General Manager of Digital Gaming and Media at Hasbro. “EA has tapped the legacy of the G.I. JOE vs. COBRA saga to create an amazing interactive experience inspired by the movie, comic books, animated series and iconography that we hope will resonate with millions of fans.” For more than four decades, G.I. JOE® has been one of the premiere brands in the history of boys' toys. Originating the term "action figure” in 1964, Hasbro’s G.I. JOE® brand ushered in a new play pattern that forever changed the scope of the toy industry. The G.I. JOE® brand made another revolutionary introduction in 1984 with the release of the G.I. JOE vs. COBRA toy line, which introduced a generation of boys to the heroic G.I. JOE® forces, led by Duke, and their epic struggle to defeat the evil COBRA organization. The G.I. JOE vs. COBRA saga featured a diverse cast of characters – both good and evil – that became a part of pop culture through Hasbro’s toy line, an animated television series and best-selling comic book franchise. For every Madden that sells a shitload of copies, EA releases four craptastic games. So yeah consumers are getting wise to the fact that EA buys good development studios then kills them, passes the IP to a weaker group of developers who are rushed to get a title on the shelf in order to sell units and increase shareholders wealth. Problem is consumers are starting to realize there is this thing called the "innernet" and consumers are reading about games before dropping $60.

I caught a peek at the back of one of the movie cards and there is a GIJOE EA URL on the back. I think this address is on the back of the vehicles too. I typed it in and the site is not ready to go yet, but this makes total sense. Yet another item we will learn about at Toy Fair.
EDIT: obviously, from the reports that the site is ready to go today. Cool!!

We saw this coming. I just hope it's something along the lines of Call Of Duty 4 and not something cheesy like the Transformers movie game that they released.
Here's the Website: G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra : Official Video Game : EA Hasbro Here's some info on it: EA Confirms Development Of G.I.Joe Video Game Inspired By The Movie - GI Joe - ToyNewsI.com
