One of those Duke scenes doesn't look like it's from the opening massacre (seems to be less hectic, and indoors). So is that one of the reshoots that didn't happen, with Channing Tatum who wasn't involved?

I'm hoping that this whole Channing Tater reshot rumor stuff was a smokescreen and that the reshoots were for a brief cameo by Sgt Slaughter teaming up with the Rock to Rock Bottom and Cobra Clutch some Cobra Troopers. That would be awesome. |

A Jay-Z reference? I could really go for a barf bag right about now. The recent trailers have started to make this movie look worse than ever. The fundamental error seems to be that the filmmakers are trying to make G.I. Joe "cool" and "hip." It's not. The kind of characters people like from 1980s G.I. Joe are square-jawed, straight-shooting, by-the-book soldiers like Flint, Duke, and Hawk and oddball misfits and geeks like Shipwreck, Sci-Fi, Airtight. The beauty of the G.I. Joe mythos was that it established that a person's strangest, most unique qualities that made them a misfit in real life could actually make them a valuable member of a successful team of heroes. Is Roadblock even going to be a gourmet chef in this or are they intent on removing the quirky, purposely uncool traits of every character, the very traits that helped people identify with them in the past?
The Joe team is supposed to have some variety in personality, but here they're all acting like Low Light, putting shades on, never smiling, speaking in blunt and rude tones, constantly posing with their guns for "money shots," not showing any endearing human qualities, unless you count trying to show off their "hip hop" cred. Snake-Eyes always got to be cool, but only by playing against his being the biggest misfit of all. The idea that G.I. Joe is now populated with a bunch of guys with "street cred" who drop references to urban "hip hop" trash makes these the most unlikable, unrelatable, unheroic Joes I've ever seen. Duke's even talking in an Eminem accent in some of these trailers. Unlike the first, enjoyable Transformers movie, we aren't given a gawky, geeky, awkward, normal person as a lead character to relate to. It's sickening that they're blatantly trying to appeal to an audience that couldn't be more different from the fans who grew up on Joe in the 1980s. It's utterly sad and disappointing that Hollywood has once again bought the rights to source material that they absolutely hate and changed everything about it into something pretty much unrecognizable. They could have just made their own movie with different character names and had no copyright issues at all because other than the names and a few designs this painfully "wannabe cool" movie doesn't seem to resemble any known permutation of G.I. Joe. Last edited by JediJones; 02-23-2013 at 11:09 PM.. |

Anyone getting the sense that the Cobra characters are going to steal the show? Specifically Cobra Commander and Firefly, maybe Zartan. I think these guys are going to be crowd and fan pleasers. Noooot quite so sure about them Joes, though.... And man, Tatum's line delivery...this is gonna be embarrassing.

I don't like rap either but Roadblock did sing song in ryhme. Rap would be the modern equivalent. There are also references to his being a chef in the movie too. These portrayals ARE as close to a square jawed hero type as you are going to find in Hollywood today. These joes look modern military but with a little characterization added. Which is what most of the ARAH joes looked like. I'm not sure what Lady Jaye does to hustle all that cash in the bar but I don't think it would be too seedy. There are things that I have seen in the trailers that make me groan, like Bruce's cholesterol line, but overall I think Chu and company have taken a hold of the series and revamped it pretty well. I have managed to avoid most spoilers and tried to forget others. Do I like everything I have seen in the trailers? no not by a long shot, but I will take the good with the bad.
