A Jay-Z reference? I could really go for a barf bag right about now. The recent trailers have started to make this movie look worse than ever. The fundamental error seems to be that the filmmakers are trying to make G.I. Joe "cool" and "hip." It's not. The kind of characters people like from 1980s G.I. Joe are square-jawed, straight-shooting, by-the-book soldiers like Flint, Duke, and Hawk and oddball misfits and geeks like Shipwreck, Sci-Fi, Airtight. The beauty of the G.I. Joe mythos was that it established that a person's strangest, most unique qualities that made them a misfit in real life could actually make them a valuable member of a successful team of heroes. Is Roadblock even going to be a gourmet chef in this or are they intent on removing the quirky, purposely uncool traits of every character, the very traits that helped people identify with them in the past?
The Joe team is supposed to have some variety in personality, but here they're all acting like Low Light, putting shades on, never smiling, speaking in blunt and rude tones, constantly posing with their guns for "money shots," not showing any endearing human qualities, unless you count trying to show off their "hip hop" cred. Snake-Eyes always got to be cool, but only by playing against his being the biggest misfit of all. The idea that G.I. Joe is now populated with a bunch of guys with "street cred" who drop references to urban "hip hop" trash makes these the most unlikable, unrelatable, unheroic Joes I've ever seen. Duke's even talking in an Eminem accent in some of these trailers. Unlike the first, enjoyable Transformers movie, we aren't given a gawky, geeky, awkward, normal person as a lead character to relate to. It's sickening that they're blatantly trying to appeal to an audience that couldn't be more different from the fans who grew up on Joe in the 1980s. It's utterly sad and disappointing that Hollywood has once again bought the rights to source material that they absolutely hate and changed everything about it into something pretty much unrecognizable. They could have just made their own movie with different character names and had no copyright issues at all because other than the names and a few designs this painfully "wannabe cool" movie doesn't seem to resemble any known permutation of G.I. Joe. |

So G.I. Joe should be purposely uncool.
I'm sure that would be a sure-fire way to rake in big bucks with the general audiences. Or are folks proposing that G.I. Joe should basically just be a straight camp-fest comedy? On a side note, looks like Arnold Voosloo's face did indeed make it into the movie, whether it's any more than that brief instant remains to be seen. Last edited by Jmacq1; 02-24-2013 at 01:16 AM.. |

But reading between the lines and scraping together what we know from various interviews and whatnot, they at least filmed the following items (though how much makes it into the final cut remains to be seen)...obviously not in chronological order: A (presumably) opening action sequence of the Joes on a mission before they get massacred. We've only seen a few seconds of this, all told. Dwayne Johnson said he has two one-on-one fights with Ray Stevenson/Firefly. We've barely seen any of this at all (one half-second flash in one of the international trailers, I believe). Snake-Eyes and Jinx Sparring (again, only a few seconds seen so far). Snake-Eyes and Storm-Shadow battling (once again...only a few seconds). The rest of the Cliff Battle beyond the 10 seconds or so we've seen). Storm Shadow's breakout of Cobra Commander. Some kind of vehicle battle, likely involving the Ripsaw and HISS Tanks. The Joes' presumable "final assault" on the White House (which may/probably includes the above mentioned vehicle battle). All the "in between" material - Storm Shadow at Joe Colton's place(?), Lady Jaye infiltrating a social function and dancing with President Zartan. The Bar scene with at least Lady Jaye, Flint, and Roadblock (may take place before the "massacre mission"), President Zartan threatening the world leaders, etc.... Basically, there's a whole lotta stuff that unless they've chopped it all out of the movie, we really haven't seen. Yes, it's been tiresome to only see tidbits of the same few scenes in all the trailers, but I'd rather have that and then have a lot of surprises during the movie than to have the trailers spoil all the best action beats. I would agree that if what they're showing ARE the best action beats, then this movie's in a lot of trouble. Quote:

Anyone else wondering how the character of Mouse will fit into the movie? Also nothing with Blind Master has been seen in trailers yet. Also who are Snake Eyes and Jinx rescuing? They are carrying a body bag it appears.
Also imdb lists that the film includes..... stop reading in case it's a spoiler.............................. Tunnel Rat and Zandar. Last edited by lamby23; 02-24-2013 at 11:24 AM.. |

the 4 minute preview shows who is in the bag. The footage was up for a while on youtube until it got blocked by Paramount, but it may still be in theaters.

I'm cool with something happening on the WWE. That opens the door to bringing more kids on board with Joe.

Except when one implies that your opinion is, in fact, wrong.

ok let me rephrase: I think that a scene with two GIJOE characters doing wrestling moves on Cobra troopers in a GIJOE film would be a terrible idea not awesome, and would be more fitting for a wrestling based tv show.
better? if my attempt at brevity caused friction i apologize. but it seems that long posts get glossed over and short ones people actually read...
