Hasbro Fourth Quarter Revenues Miss The Mark
So because stock holders aren't happy, the little guy gets the shaft, again? What they should do is give all those executives a pay cut. And no bonuses, I never understood how a guy that sits in an office should be getting ridiculous bonus. I would love a job where I get bonus where all I do is sit in an office and attend boring meetings.

"but consumer demand through much of the holiday season was less than anticipated in both the U.S. and certain international markets"
And there were no Joes in stores for Christmas. A coincidence?

There weren't nearly as many Transformers in stores as I had hoped either. I was looking forward to the big "Christmas stock-up" stores do, but none of them really did. The stores barely had any TF stock during the whole Christmas season. It's STILL like that now. Store shelves are bare, man. You can't make sales like that! Hasbro needs to work getting and keeping their Joe and TF product on the shelves. |

Ironic statement here. So you're saying that you never understood that kind of job and you don't like the idea of them getting big bonuses but yet you would want to be that guy?

Right. Wal-marts action figure aisle is like a wasteland and Target still has a large section devoted to Spider-Man movie figures. Did anyone buy those? The Transformer section does seem paltry. Wake up Hasbro.

It says the revenue was $200 million less than the previous year, but profitability was up. That means it has nothing to do with executive pay. They brought in less money from the consumers, but brought down their spending by a proportionally greater level.
I don't see how the "little guy" is getting the shaft. It's the little guy that buys their products and they bought less of them. The big guy is getting the shaft here. They said revenue grew in girls and games categories, so maybe boys was the problem. It certainly looks that way. Star Wars was cut off at the knees in January by Lucasfilm's failed TPM 3D push. The pegwarmers kept better Star Wars product from getting out all year long. Paramount killed G.I. Joe. Marvel Legends was either ignored by retailers for much of the year or Hasbro couldn't get the product out. Marvel Universe had a tiny output of 2 waves late in the year. Spider-Man figure sales slowed down surprisingly, probably because the reboot was a disappointment, grossing less than Spider-Man 3 and depressing families with its Dark Knight-ish violence. The only bright spot was Avengers. But the return of TMNT overshadowed all of Hasbro's lines during Christmas and Mattel's WWE probably beat them the rest of the year. It wasn't even totally Hasbro's fault. Star Wars and G.I. Joe were mismanaged by Hollywood bigwigs moreso than Hasbro bigwigs. Mattel's built up a great niche for themselves with WWE and TMNT had their perennial insurmountable comeback. We certainly wouldn't want Hasbro to buy those licenses and distract from their other stuff. Hasbro had a smash hit with the Masterpiece Prime at TRU. So if they made any mistake, once again it was pushing too much product to kids when collectors are the ones who reliably and consistently spend the real money. I would love a job where I get bonus where all I do is sit in an office and attend boring meetings. I went to a Target yesterday and there are no Joes, a few MU and TF and about 70% fewer Star Wars then they usually have! Good thing I have a TRU in town. By little guy, I thought the OP meant the lower employees getting let go while the top people make the most money.

But yes, by and large Hasbro and the Retailers did a dismal job with action figures this year. As noted, retailers didn't even seem to do the usual "Christmas stock-up" where you end up seeing much of the product that was "missed" for the year all showing up in November/December. Something is very wrong in the action figure aisles, and it really seems like ONLY the action figure aisles are having this problem right now. It's not just Hasbro, either, and even TRU has pretty hollowed-out shelves where the action figures are concerned. Last edited by Jmacq1; 01-25-2013 at 02:28 PM.. |
