Hey guys I'm Atomsmasher and I collect 3 3/4 inches and 12inches too and not just Sideshow. I honesty hate what Hasbro does in bringing the 3 3/4 to twelve inches. That being said i love what they did in the 90's and what they did with DID to release some of the older and odd versions of the figures from back in the day. I recently bought the Airborne figure so now you all know someone who collects the twelve inch one that being said. One of my biggest wants was the doughboy they released in 2000 and i have one so i'm thrilled. These are also for military representative and i wish they were detailed as they were back in unlike the cheaper stuff they do now.
i hope they release they marine dress box I'll buy 10 of them at 15 all day. Last edited by atomsmasher; 11-20-2012 at 01:39 AM.. |

It really amazes me that there are so many of y'alls out there who are against the 1960's - 70's 12" line that started it all. I LOVE the crap out of those figures but HATE the newer 12" lines.
I don't see how people can even equate the old-school 12" line to any of the other GI Joe 12" lines, they are on completely different level. There is an awesome old-world feel to those figures and I continue to collect them when Hasbro releases them, they make awesome display pieces~!!! One day, I would like to get an original '64 Joe at the very least. Quote:
All I know is that I've met a lot of GI Joe collectors over the years - some 12" collectors, mainly 3 3/4", whether vintage or new sculpt - I don't think even ONE was into the new, retail 12" stuff. Not saying they aren't out there, but that stuff is clearly oriented towards kids primarily. Whether or not they're doing so successfully can only be determined by the facts at hand - and the only fact we happen to have access to, is the fact that Hasbro keeps selling them. And again, if Hasbro was actually marketing 12" figures to adult collectors, they wouldn't allow competition from Sideshow, period. What kind of marketing strategy is that? And even if you are correct that it's primarily adults buying them - well, you answered your own question as to why Hasbro would even bother making them. Different markets. But I still think it's mainly for kids.

I hear ya. I'm not really all that into the old school 12-inchers but I feel the same way when people hate on the old o-ring style RAH Joes. Have some respect, people!
One day, I would like to get an original '64 Joe at the very least. Do you have actual facts to back that up or are you talking out of your ass? But I still think it's mainly for kids. Go take a walk around your local Toys R Us and look how empty the shelves are in Joe product..and when they do get anything, its a case or 2.And who is buying the only case they get of 12" figures(whenever they make them)...uh huh the ADULTS (Collector)!! not kids.... As I said before, the action figure market is slowly shrinking and has been for the last few years... As far as my comment about collector's being Cheap,I was being a smart ass....because there are too many here that bash Sideshow's Joe because really they just can't afford them, and what they can't afford, they criticize while never owning or seeing how great these figures are in hand... With Sideshow around, there is just no need for Hasbro to waste their time just to cater to a select group of (looking to buy cheap) buyers |

I love the 12 inch figures, they have grown on me. I bought all of the Adventure team reissues, and I've been hoping that Hasbro would reissue the original Action Marine, Pilot and Sailor, so this is great news for me. For Hasbro 12" the price is great, at $20 a pop, you get a lot of toy.

do you really need facts or are you just not paying attention??

Even then, it's ONE store in ONE location. So yeah, you're basing all this on very little actual evidence and hearsay, obviously. The only thing we actually know for certain is that Hasbro has decided to cater to the adult collectors, through Sideshow. Okay, gotcha - but toy companies do not typically allow other companies to create competing products of their OWN BRANDS. The logical conclusion is that Hasbro does not believe that their own in-house 12" figures compete in the same market as Sideshow, but are still worth producing, because - well, you know - they keep making them. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume Hasbro doesn't continue to do things that result in a loss of revenue, so obviously they're not wasting their time. If they believe they will make money on it, they must know something you don't... Otherwise, they WOULDN'T waste their time. Just because stuff eventually goes on clearance, and toy isles aren't as packed as they were in the '80s, doesn't mean Hasbro isn't making money on this stuff. They're not making toys just for the sake of it...

Also, I found the 1990's 12" Military Joes were in places very good, and in places not so good! Hall of Fame weren't nice, then the 'Classic' collection had nice uniforms and bodies but the heads were too big. Once they sorted the heads out the military figures got really nice. Some great figures there. The later ones went downhill again with moulded-on clothes for some reason. The 12" versions of the RAH characters have always sucked big balls. They could have done a decent job but moulded clothes, wierd heads and bad choice of accessories made them a joke mostly. |

I already have all 4 of the original Action Joes... If they re-release them, I hope they release "new" sets of accessories. I would love to have a medic. I also wish they would go back and do some more Fuzzy Joes from the 70's. They are a TON of sets that have yet to be reproduced.

I'm not sure what the issue is with potential, new, 12" Joes. You can't compare what Hasbro would offer with what Sideshow is offering. Sideshow's stuff is high-end and very costly. There are 12" fans that aren't willing or able to spend the high costs of the Sideshow stuff.
I'm not into the 12" stuff, Hasbro or Sideshow. However, I'm sure there are people that like both. I do have the 12" reproduction, bearded Joes from a few years back. I had them at my office, and my co-workers and clients loved the different poses the Joes would be put into. There's something amazingly cool about the nostalgia those Joes represent. I see nothing wrong with Hasbro releasing something along the lines of them again. |

My boys and I collect both sizes (as well as Sigma 6!) religiously! We have been kit bashing 12" joes for years! They are much more customizable then the 3 3/4 inch! Especially because we are not sculptors or painters!! We are in process of building a scale destroyed village in our back yard! We have recently collected several large vehicles and built numerous scale diorama parts!!
