Boy! If all this is being said because of a rumor, I can't imagine how much more will be said if it was actually true.

But you failed to explain how Disney would get around the license agreement between Marvel and Hasbro with has two more years! Even though Disney would own both, it can't just break agreements or force these companies to make business deals as that would just hurt their corporation. It would make very little sense for them to license out a toy to another company when they could keep it in house and make all the profit. All this talk of Disney licensing out Hasbro properties makes no sense, as the point of the properties in the first place is to make and sell toys!
Don't forget, while Disney works with many companies, their strongest relationship is with Hasbro. I've seen GI Joe sold in their Downtown Disney toy store (Once Upon a Toy), among other Hasbro properties like Transformers. Recent movies like Tron and PoC likely weren't sold by Hasbro because Hasbro seems to have a lot on its plate right now with just Marvel movies! Lastly, Disney has a pretty hands-off approach with existing properties that it has acquired. Marvel comics hasn't really changed - yes, they are doing the whole "Marvel NOW!" but it likely due to a similar reboot at DC. Instead, Disney worked with Marvel Studios - something was pretty small before Disney came in. Pixar actually took over Disney in many respects, with Lassiter having a role in developing the parks. Personally, I think the talks with Hasbro have nothing to do with buying them, but just making sure the company understands the path to the future and likely making a deal for the next SW movie. And if their are talks, it would be 6 monhts or more before anything materialized because Disney is loving the attention from the Lucasfilm purchase! |

Now purely conjecture on my part, I'm sure hasbro owns the molds or at least some part of the Star Wars franchise that wasn't sold by Lucas (whether its art work, design team etc, and I know lucas liked to keep a tight grip on his stuff, but I'm sure at least the molds belong to Hasbro. Disney may want to have complete ownership of Star Wars they buy Hasbro break off the star wars part and resell the rest. Now IF Disney buys Hasbro do I think it WILL happen, probably not, but it can make sense depending on the real reason they MAY be buying it. Hell, Disney may want the Kenner name so they can release "vintage style" cardbacks and are going a classic route with the new toys. Last edited by Grendel; 11-08-2012 at 04:34 AM.. I'd take both the rumor and the debunkment with two grains of salt. The rumor may well still be just that, but Hasbro and Disney could also WANT the rumor to be debunked precisely so that the stock doesn't skyrocket too much before the final agreements are hammered out, which would make it a more expensive prospect for Disney.

all we have are "analyists" giving their two cents in the article. Granted they are more knowledgeable in such matters but they are still only opinions. Educated opinions but opinions all the same.
