Yeah the art is great. Had a talk with Ron Wagner (my all time favorite Joe artist) and he was happy to be drawing the Joes again.
My only dislike is that some of the story lines have been done already. The invasion of the pit was done already. But seeing it as a mobile unit with the ability to move was cool. Let's move on from the brainwave scanner. Seeing the ghostly image of Kwinn returning to take Venom was pretty cool, I'll admit. Larry seemed to forget that Snake Eyes had surgery and his face isn't messed up anymore. Then they forgot to draw the moustache on Mutt in the yearbook, seriously in this day and age they shouldn't be making those mistakes. Still a good read and its nice to have a continuation of the old stuff. |

I agree that IDW's ARAH is a good continuation of the old Marvel series. Most of it has been a great nostalgia-like read, but there has been some misses (wasn't a fan of the recent Blue Ninjas storyline). It's currently the only Joe comic I read. I've given all the others a try (usually the first story arcs or first few issues) and just haven't really gotten into them. Hopefully I can snag the Snake Eyes cover for this one.

The last few issues have read like a bad parody. I hope to see Hama right the ship, and soon.

I just found this this is a on going series that last issue #155 in marvel years had left off now the devil's dues gi joe comic books that was use to be in the same continuity.
when march madness comes. let's vote who do you like to see in the comics the characters, vehicles, weapons based on action figures that we knew since 1982, characters based on cartoons and more. I like to see in the comics are. ones that never get a chance to appear in the comics. updraft sub-zero capt. grid-iron major storm windchill rumbler (R/C Crossfire driver from 1987) tiger claw dr. link talbot dart

Why are they still dragging this Blue Ninja storyline?
I loved how 'Optimus Prime' kept hitting on Scarlett

First things first, I had the privilege of reading this book in the airport waiting to return from JoeCon (IDW had the JoeCon cover available for sale at JoeCon before the on-sale date the following Wednesday) and I thought the issue was great. Loved the art, loaded with "in jokes", I got excited for the Darklon return at the end seeing as he was just offered as a con exclusive at the same show I picked the book up at, it reminded of being a kid and reading the comic where the stories featured current on shelf product.
As far as the series needing a mercy killing, I couldn't disagree more. I think what the series needs is boundaries. Larry Hama is a fantastic writer, a smart mind, with the ability to write clever and witty stories. The problem is, since this IDW relaunch he has been given carte blanche to do what he wants with the series. To an extent, that is fine. This is his baby, after all. The issue is, because he has no perimeters as to when story arcs need to begin/end or what characters need to appear, it sometimes feels he has the tendency to "phone it in" when he doesn't have an idea that knocks it out of the park. In the Marvel-era when a new toy was coming out, it had to be featured in the book, so if there was say Ninja Force for example, the story started and ended within the time frame the toys were coming out. I feel like this served two purposes, the first to keep the ideas fresh for Hama, and the second, to keep the stories moving quickly and the characters rotating. This is why you never saw 10 issue arcs for Brainwave Scanners and Blue Ninjas back in the day. Because Hasbro had new product they needed to push and they didn't have the time to waste on year long story lines. If Hasbro would just step in, and demand new characters be featured in sync with the current toyline, this book would return to it's former glory instantly. Regardless, even if that never happens, for the ARAH purists it is the best thing to happen to Joe related media since 1994, IMO.

Have some of the issues been lackluster? In my opinion, yes. Am I still waiting for Hama to hit it out of the park and really hook us all with a fantastic storyline? Yes. However...do I keep looking forward to this comic every month? YES! Am I pleased beyond words that he took the old series and has continued it from 155? A resounding YES! I hope he keeps writing it until he retires.

as for next issues that i want larry hama to add are joes that didn't appear in marvel run of comics.
updraft sub-zero snowstorm windchill downtown Robo Joe colonel courage mace starduster super trooper cloudburst skymate major altitude pathfinder freefall major storm captain grid-iron the fridge all the sky patrol joes effects ice cream soldier the characters i wanted larry to add for the story line of ARAH are Budo, Bushido, Banzai, T-Gin-Zu, Cobra Ninja Vipers (mail-in figure), Night Creeper Leader, Night Creepers, jinx (SDCC figure). the vehicles i want larry to add arctic blast, ice snake, manta ray, buzz boar, ice sabre, road toad, mudbuster, rhino, triple t, sky patrol vehicles, barracuda, patriot, fort america (sonic fighter vehicle from 1992), ninja cycle, ninja raiders both gi joe and cobra, eco-striker, storm eagle, liquidator, power fighters both gi joe and cobra. it's about time for readers to see different characters that they didn't see or heard of just in case since they've remember major characters like snake eyes, scarlett, duke, cobra commander, baroness, destro. never know that readers could see. we joe fans are into all the characters we've love so much. i wanted to see budo he's got all the cool samurai gear, let larry have him in the comics as a leading gi joe characters besides snake eyes.
