fine in my book, peeps wanna em and they should provide em if it is possible to do so. Its supposed to be about fun...not about selling them and getting enough money to pay for 4 kids though school on the revenue on the secondary market due to limited supply and rubbing it in peoples faces...this would be a good gesture from the club to do this in the future too, when they strike gold with a con set and under produce, come back with another order later on to supply the demand. This would be a perfect opportunity to throw up a pre-order for it, if it meets their minimum required order amount , if not oh well move on.
The majority of those that purchase more than one set are are selling it to off set their costs of attending the con. Why oh why oh why in the H-E-Double hockey sticks in this so darn difficult for people to understand??? |

Going to the Con is an event, vacation, gathering, whatever you want it to be. When you start selling stuff to ” recoup your costs” you are a scalper, plain and simple. There's nothing wrong with that. But using it as an excuse to sell everything you buy to recoup costs is just a lame excuse. Seriously you go to the con to get the items for yourself or for others. Buying them and reselling them for any reason is scalping. Like I said I have no problem with doing it, I just hate people trying to justify their scalping. Hell I've sold almost everything I bought at the Con and turned a nice profit. I still probably didn't cover all my costs but I had a blast. But people saying ” I'm going to the con and I'm gonna buy and sell everything to recoup my costs” is like someone going to Wal Mart and buying up all the hard to find collectables and saying ” I'm only selling them to recoup my gas costs from driving around all day.”

I can see it from both point of views. I'm sure there are those who just buy it all to re sell and make some quick cash, but the fact is if some decides to sell off some of their items to re coup a little of their costs, I would hardly call them scalpers.

"of those that purchase more than one set" More jumping to conclusions Let me break it down for everyone the same way I broke it down for someone else last week: If I sell it, it's in MY collection or someone in my family. I buy TWO and sell one to cover the costs of buying TWO so what I add to MY collection costs me as little to zero as possible to have it. I have sustained my collection and hobby by learning how to either: Break even OR Turn a profit Over the last few years, I have emassed a HUGE collection: Found here: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-toy-room.html by employing this method Now You might not like it, agree with and hell, it might even make you a little jealous, but one look at my feedback here: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/buy-se...8026-lody.html Also shows that I go above and beyond helping out those in the Joe world that reach out and ask me. Going to the con is going to cost me X My goal when I am done is to either resell my extra set and make X OR X+Y NOW While I am at the con, I also on the lookout for a few items for a number of people that have reached out to me and asked me either track them down or pick them up. I am hoping to do this for them. I will also be doing this while in the middle of meeting and greeting all those great people that I have interacted with at the last con I atteded (2010) and those that I have yet to meet. MY stance on "Scalping" (as I still think that this is the most overused word in the community and usually used by those that are upset that someone else has something that they want) is people buying stuff that they have ZERO interest in and are looking to turn a profit on by selling it for the maximum that they can. Clearly as I have outlined here, this is NOT the case with me as what I buy is in my personal collection (again-reference that link labled My Toy Room) thus I DO NOT fit that description. Good? Good Class dismissed boys and girls. Last edited by Lody; 06-24-2012 at 10:07 PM.. |

I don't think it's scalping, but I'm also not gonna pay the eBay prices for these either. I thought about buying last year's convention set because I wanted de Aco and Wetsuit. I was going to try and sell everything else to makeup for almost $400(?)price tag, but didn't wanna take the chance. I'm obviously not much of a gambler. And yes, I'm a little jealous of Lody, but I got nothin' bad to say about him. ;-)
