Also, multiple production runs of a product does not make much sense financially. Every time you have to set up the production line again there is a huge up front cost that has to be amortized over that production run. People are already complaining about costs, you think they would be cheaper if they had to produce these figures in multiple batches. I'm sorry, but no, they really have to call it right the first time and do one production run - something that is notoriously difficult to do with accuracy.

You can't market a limited edition product then turn around and make more of them later, because doing so makes you a liar and the club got major heat for this way back in the day - by heat, I mean they were accused of doing it, I don't know that they actually did. You're complaining about one thing they're doing then setting them up to do something else that an equal number of people will bitch about. As with just about everything dealing with toy collectors - the man, the boy, and the donkey parable comes to mind.

They did make what, 150 more boxed sets than last year ? something like that and however many more extra bagged sets. Either way they made more sets than last year or any previous year from what I understand. The club isn't Hasbro, they can't afford to order some huge insanely massive amount of con sets.

I'm sure since the price for attending and non-attending is the same, the non-attending sales are nice profit item for the club. It probably even subsidizes the attendee cost for the overall convention. So everyone wins. |

This year it was 600 boxed and 325 bagged. So it was a little more. The set just ended up being more popular that they estimated I guess.

I don't know about you, but personally, I would be leery of spending that kind of cash hoping that GI Joe collectors don't cheap out and decide not to buy the set. The Club isn't some multi-million dollar enterprise. They are a very small company, and they can't take too big of risks. |

After the credit card debacle, when everywhere you looked the fanboys were pledging to be "done with the club", you would have been hard pressed to find any empirical evidence that the Club would need to increase its production run for this year's con set. In fact, based on the nerd rage on the internet, smart money would have been on them cutting production instead.
So the Club was prescient in their decision to RAISE production numbers in the face of evidence saying they should do just the opposite. Unfortunately they don't seem to have raised it enough....but then again how many of the people bitching about not being able to get a con set now are the same ones who were "through with the Club" three months ago? Personally, I would love it if the Club had archived all of those who were "through with the Club" and cancelled their orders for con sets....just so they don't make liars out of themselves, you know....

No doubt. It's impossible to estimate.
