I have never seen a more dysfunctional toyline/brand in my life. How does anyone look back at the last 10 years and not see how royally screwed up this toyline is? Is it just me or have they taken something that should be so simple and profitable and just made a complete mess? There is ZERO continuity. I would kill to be in the meetings when some of these decisions are made. Consistency should be at the forefront of any product. The consumer should always see logic and progress in the decision making. You go to the store, see Gi Joe, and you should have a certain expectation of what you are getting. Obviously, Hasbro just doesn't get it because they are all over the map. I look at LowLight and say wow, this is one of the best, mass-produced action figures I have ever seen. Then we get Retaliation Roadblock with a fixed hand and no foot articulation and wonder how could the same company make these two figures within the same line? Hasbro is one puzzling company when it comes to GI Joe. What a shame.

Well, in my area, none of the Walmarts in my area have had any GI Joe figures in quite some time (except for one Walmart that has a Rise of Cobra movie Destro on the pegs still at full price -- no joke!). Target hasn't had much besides Arctic Destro, which might as well be empty pegs. KMart doesn't carry them anymore (at least here). That leaves Toys R Us as the only place with them.
So it will pretty much be the same I imagine. . .sure, stores will put out the wave 1 stuff. It will either sit there from lack of interest, or it will sell through and not be replaced until after Christmas. It will either be empty pegs for a long time, or some stores will just replace the spot with something else. . .more room for Bakugan or whatever they happen to have extra of. I don't think this will be the end of the line. It may even work out kinda good. Usually with movie toys stores way over-order wave 1 and the other waves never see the light of day. So maybe this way wave 1 will have LOTS of time to try to sell through, retailers will be ticked and order less, so wave 2 and 3 won't be on the shelves forever, and maybe the later waves will actually show up before the toys go on clearance. Maybe this will become the new model for how to do movie toys! |

I wouldn't be surprised if the DG figures were put into greater circulation (TRU, WM, Target, etc)as a stop gap measure.
On the plus side, this may mean that we actually see wave 3 and 4 and beyond when the movie does hit. Plenty of time for stores to sell their present stock of wave 1 and 2. Just pray they are smart and don't reorder the exact same stuff. |

Probably going to release nothing but Renegades Storm Shadows and Zombies now.
Right after I spent a small fortune buying them on ebay. Sucks to be me. |

I knew it was going to hurt. I just didn't know it was going to hurt this much. Wow, what are they thinking?

I am not surprised by this news. My TRU pulled all of the retaliation stuff the day the movie was announced it was pushed back and the store manager said it was taken off the floor "until further notice."
I now believe this was NOT a coincidence and they got word to do this given this press release by Hasbro.

9 months to see Retaliation figures, which collectors generally were not very excited by. I'm skipping Retaliation figures, so how many months until we get something similiar to PoC ? Likely over 1 year, if at all.
So, I'll be collecting, Oktober Guard, FSS, Canadian Convention, customs. Notice one thing....none of them are made by Hasbro. That's just sad......... |
