Both my grandfathers served in WW2 and my father served in Vietnam. Great Holiday.

Thanks to all those that have served and are serving for our freedom and especially to those that died so we can be free.

I was in the Army for 6 yrs. For me, being a soldier was about brotherhood and honor. As a veteran, I am truly proud to have served my country and to have helped defend the freedoms of many good people. Even great people, like you guys here at the 'Tank.
Every one of you should consider yourselves saluted. |

Hope there's time left to make an observance for the holiday.
Tad Keaton, my maternal grandfather, was a sniper in Sicily. Some of us think PTSD got the better of him after he came home. He eventually surrendered to alcohol, but never to an enemy combatant. He died just after I was born. My step-grandfather Bud Jacoby was a mortar soldier in WWII. Ironically enough he introduced me to Short Fuse, my first childhood Joe. My Uncle Jim was an Officer in the Phillipines and helped free the country when Gen. MacArthur came back. He saw many children living in squalor and bought them clothing from his own out-of-pocket expenses. Thanks one and all from every era. -PJ Last edited by Obiwanjacoby; 11-12-2007 at 09:17 PM.. |

Just wanted to add that reading each and every one of these replies has been a great experience. Just reading about everyone's personal stories about their own duty, their loved ones and relatives is pretty damn inspiring.
I'm a civy and have never served, but am so awestruck and proud of those who do and who have. A sincere thank you to you. You do amazing & historical work everyday. -Peter |
