I used to live in PA and this whole wave (minus the Freedom outpost with Duke) hit a small chain of stores called "Ollies". They were really cheap, and I used to have multiples of everything. I remember I had several of the GI Joe tank (I forgot the name of it but it resembled the Mauler) and had like 20 Shadow Vipers
EDI: The sad thing is that these were so much better than the first 2 waves of BTR. Had they made BTR this well from the beginning, the line probably would have succeeded. Last edited by Dem_Yoe'z!; 04-17-2012 at 11:09 AM.. |

I remembering getting 2 sets of these. I think the only one i dont have is the HQ set. Yeah this wave of these were way better than the first 2 waves. I liked the concept of this line. HISS Tank is probably one of the best ones released in this line. The coolest figure out of the BTR types has to be Firefly.

i picked this up on amazon a few yrs back for 15 bucks. i really like. i did have to mod it and gave it better weapons than the giant missile launchers. i also added an extra canopy to the back section from the 1st release of the halo hornet copter. also added a few flat pieces to cover up all the exposed connection points, think it looks great now.

These brick sets came out when I was not collecting G.I. Joe, so I didn't buy any. I did drool over them on the toy aisles, especially on the clearance aisles at the end. They nearly sucked me back into collecting G.I. Joe. Unfortunately, I was at that point in life where my wants were changing and my wallet couldn't accommodate everything so I passed.
I don't regret that, but I have thought about trolling E-bay or other sources and buying some of these sets because I still find them awesome. I really wish Kre-o or Lego would be utilized to do something similar today. Currently I'm buying both G.I. Joe and Lego in moderation. Sets like these would easily fit into that moderation point and be on my buy list. I'm currently loving the Lego Board Game line up. It is awesome. Typing this, thinking about Built-T-Rule, I now am fantasizing a Lego board game. Microfigure versions of the characters and a set objective similar to Minotarous or Magma Monster. That would be awesome, but that is a digression. Back to BTR, I know why collectors don't like these figures. The "Lego bumps" are ugly, but they do look like fun. I wish a younger me had not felt "too old" for these when they came out. He would have loved them! |

I was lucky and a friend picked one up for me. I'd love to have seen this translated to a regular vehicle. It always makes me think it's a prototype HISS. Like the version before the original HISS that came out. Of course not Hasbro's prototype, but meaning the fictional world of what might have came from Cobra before their version 1 HISS.

Hasbro wouldn't license joe to lego, but they own kre-o don't they? I don't know if there are plans to do anything though. Hell we still cant get Gi-joe/transformers x-over toys after 30 years, so you can't expect them to think to rationally.
