Glad I'm not the only one who couldn't give two craps about that guy playing in Retaliation.

I've come around on C-Tates, after Haywire and 21 Jump Street. Dude is cool.
He's a perfectly reasonable actor to play a character based on a piece of plastic from 28 years ago. The Tatum hating is asinine. He was not the problem with that first movie, by any stretch. *Puts on asbestos underwear* |

No you are not alone, I think Marlon was a little miffed.

Word.
I have nothing against Wayans or Tatum, they're just not Ripcord & Duke to me and never will be.

He's a perfectly reasonable actor to play a character based on a piece of plastic from 28 years ago. The Tatum hating is asinine. He was not the problem with that first movie, by any stretch. *Puts on asbestos underwear* While it's often the curse of the straight-laced "leading man" to come across as bland (particularly compared to the often-colorful villains (Pretty much the whole Cobra crew), "Badass" supporting characters (Snake-Eyes) and the wisecracking comic-relief characters (Ripcord)), there are plenty of actors that can take such a role and still make the most of it. Tatum...clearly didn't in RoC. Now, what I've come to realize, is that Tatum appears to be an actor that CAN give good performances if he's either engaged by the material or has a good director pushing him. Though it may be telling that his real talent seems to be in comedy rather than outright action. Sommers likely takes a hefty bit of the blame for Tatum's (lack of) performance in RoC, but it also may be a matter of mismatched material. Tatum gave mostly the right sound bites during the press junkets for RoC, but compare his level of "enthusiasm" to that which Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has demonstrated during Retaliation. One of these guys is simply doing his professional duty, the other has taken it upon himself to be a one-man marketing machine for the film. Last edited by Jmacq1; 04-12-2012 at 07:29 PM.. |

Good post by by Jmacq1...Look at Harrison Ford in ROTJ , he obviously was bored and it is documented he didnt want to do the third movie, but he still pulls of a decent performance.

Well us weed smokers got to stick together. Ripcord was good people in ROC. I quite like the movie I am sorry it suffered so much scrutiny. Funny, explosions, ninjas, head shots by hot red heads and Marlon Wayans its all good baby! Roll me up a fatty and lets hear it with the director commentary. Inside the actors studio if you will.

Ripcord was worse than Tatum, he wasnt even funny and I kept thinking about his role in "Scary Movie". If anything he shouldve been Stalker, but the whole team was some UN un-American hero, it was the wigs of Hasbro in cahoots with Hollywood liberals PCing the brand to shit. So really blame them.
Problem with Tatum is that he represents the archtype of pretty boy, all star and jock which rubs alotve guys the wrong way, but the character of Duke in the movie was that. They did the same thing with Captain Kirk in the star trek remake but played up him being a philander. I think most want Duke or Hawk, to be an actor like John Wayne and like the old movies which the cartoon modeled on the old WWII movies and types of characters which those actors and characters dont exist today. We are thankful that Optimus Prime retained Peter Cullen but only because its an alien and CGI. We dont have the sorta actors today with good voices and charisma plus looks like we did back in the day. I think the Captain American atleast tried to hearken back to all of that and kinda succeeded and wasnt a bad movie. I think better than Thor. GI JOE needed to be made back in the Reagan's 80's which is GI JOE A Real American Hero's era and heyday. I'd like to hear/read the reviews of these screenings. Does anybody remember this about ROC? I do wonder if it was indeed true.. Rumor: Stephen Sommers Fired Mid-Way Through G.I. Joe? | FirstShowing.net |
