I feel the same way. In fact, I think we're in very similar boats.
I bought all the Sideshoe GI Joe figures up until the Desert Officer... Just couldn't pull the trigger on that one. In fact, I just sold my Crimson Cobra Commander and am in the process of selling off my Ninjas (all exclusives) and Snipers (Desert and the normal black version). Keeping the rest though.

I too have the figured ordered and I agree with some of what your saying but I don't think the goggles being too small is the total issue. bigger goggles won't fix the problem. His forehead is way too big, the lower part )nose/jaw seem to be in proper size with eyes. looking at an average person 3 pair of goggles should cover the entire head, meaning the size from jaw line to below the eyes should equal the space from below eyes to above eyes(goggle coverage) and then the same distance from top of brow to top of fore head. SE seems to have twice the distance from top of brow to top of forehead. Bigger goggles may cover it some but I think lowering forehead would be better.
As fore the sweater issue they are saying he is supposed to be more winterized and using modern gear instead of the vietnam era "Wooly Pully" I don't mind the jacket though. But a black wooly pully would have been better. As for their "excuse" about the sweater... if he's supposed to be in winter gear, where are his winter pants and boots? I've seen Winter Snake-Eyes - that's a pretty classic issue. He wore a jacket, not a weird zipper-sweater. He needs a classic black commando sweater. They never go out of style; they're just awesome. And the knee pads really do bother me. Quote:

But now that I'm not going to be a completionist, do I really need this? He's already been preordered, but I too think the original version looks better (not to mention it was the first Sideshow GI Joe, which gives it a bit of historical significance as well). Plus, I have the Recon at Waypoint set, so Timber isn't really a big deal to me. I'm not too fussed about the knee pads (some pants do have them sewn in) or the sweater (it IS bulky, though), but the headsculpt just throws everything off... and bottom line, I'm not sure I need two Snake Eyes figures, anyway. I really hope they change/fix this figure before it's released.
