This is the most awesome post I have read about the Rock. I shall forever remove my hat when you enter the room.

Always better when the actors, director, writers and crew give a $hit.

I think that this Cobra Commander might be genetically-modified super-leader/warrior like Serpentor. In the trailer we see Storm Shadow and a few others in stasis tanks and CC in a war room that looks to be in some kind of museum. Very reminiscent of RAH #49. That would make CC a very physical adversary. Probably not but a possibility, no?

I know, It's annoying to hear these guys calling Cobra Commander "Cobra."

I could dig it. In fact, I'm almost kind of surprised in the various incarnations of Joe we've gotten in the last few years that the idea hasn't already been done. I have to say, the idea of Cobra Commander as a physical adversary instead of just a mastermind is a good one to me, though I hesitate to bring up the dreaded "Sigma 6" words, Cobra Commander was pretty kick-ass physically in that incarnation. Anyway, the cast and crew sure as heck have either done their research, or they've been very well-coached on "saying the right things" to keep building goodwill with the old-school fans. Sounds like we'll get the typical "slap-slap-kiss" relationship payoff with Flint and Lady Jaye...but that's very true to the original relationship anyway. I do find it amusing how they keep playing word-games and tiptoeing around RoC, trying to compliment it and put it down at the same time. The "throw the last movie under the bus" phenomenon -is- getting kind of old. Especially when it's gotten so bad that in some cases actors are subtly bashing movies that are just being released or just about to be released while talking about "wanting to do a sequel that's better" (See: Jason Momoa and his recent Conan movie). I still maintain that there was a lot about RoC that was "right"...or at least had the right ideas about "Joe" but they were twisted around and not executed so well. I don't think anyone can honestly deny that the overall plot arc wasn't practically lifted straight from a Sunbow mini-series (and a lot of the action beats and plot flow followed suit...chase Cobra around the world, demonstration of the "macguffin's" power, Duke gets captured, Big showdown at Cobra's base, etc....), and while it was applied to the wrong characters, the Rex/Anna/Duke bit was really just Hama's "Six Degrees of Snake-Eyes" being applied to Duke instead of Snake-Eyes. The problem is that the combination and the changes didn't work well, and Tatum was not a leading man worth hanging a movie on, at least not in that film. Also, a funny side-note on Adrianne Palicki and DJ Cotrona - When they start talking about how Adrianne almost got to be Wonder Woman, Cotrona's got some experience in that regard, too: He was originally cast as Superman in the "got within a hair's breadth of starting filming" Justice League: Mortal movie by George Miller a couple years back. So he knows what he's saying when he says "BDUs are better than tights." Last edited by Jmacq1; 02-19-2012 at 12:53 AM.. |

Basically making Serpentor and Cobra Commander the same guy?

I would be 100% ok with this change. I hated the backstory the gave CC in ROC and tbh there is really no way to sidestep around that. So i guess taking Serpentor's backstory and turning him into CC would be the only way to go.........besides a reboot : P |

Finally the consensus around Hollywood that Yes Rise of CRAP was NOT a true GI JOE movie. It was a "big fun family sci-fi" movie but NOT a GI Joe movie.
Please let us let Rise of CRAP rot away and be forgotten. Retaliation looks to be the First true GI JOE live action movie. |

Please let us let Rise of CRAP rot away and be forgotten. Retaliation looks to be the First true GI JOE live action movie. RoC was a G.I. Joe movie. It may not have been the G.I. Joe movie many fans wanted, or a particularly good G.I. Joe movie, but it was a G.I. Joe movie, and no amount of juvenile name-calling will change that. |
